Most of them are miserable, humorless, people. They don't like when other people enjoy themselves. Trump looks like he has a good time being president, despite how stressful the position is. Trump is at his best when he is jovial, as far as setting the left off.

Many of the powers-that-be aren't stupid. They are benefiting from the corrupt Political Establishment, and they want to keep the corruption flowing like the Mississippi River for all the usual reasons. Money, power, greed, fame, sex, etc. And, they aren't all Democrats, either. Plenty of dirty Republicans, too., like the Bush family cabal, Dick and Lizard Cheney, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, etc.
But, here's the deal. In order to remain in power they have to fool the people. That's where the stupidity comes in, with the rank-and-file peeps in the country. For example, Democrat officials don't believe their own rhetoric when they talk about Trump. They know all these buzzwords like oligarchy, chaos, democracy in peril, Trump's a King, etc. is total bullshite. But they're saying all of that to try and program people into believing that Trump's a tyrant and they (mostly Dems but also the Bush family, the Cheney family, Romney, etc) are the only force standing between Trump and the total destruction of America.
The potential good news? According to polls, more and more people seem to be tuning them out.
