Democrat senators should be forced to recuse themselves from the impeachment vote. Will the Republican senate force this or wuss out like they have done for the last 12 years?

While it sounds fair, it would just drag this crap on for another six months while the democrats try to figure out their next move.

You cant force them to recuse themselves. They were never voting to acquit anyway.

This is an exercise in futility. Never gonna get 67

It seems like I heard they aren't allowed to campaign during the trial.

I still want a several month trial where these progressive Senators are forced to not leave Capital Hill... for the good of the country.

Only if they are still required to attend the trial....

This is glorious, the Dems are going to screw Sanders and Warren by taking them off the campaign trail for weeks. What a great play by Nancy.

I'd rather they were sequestered for the remainder of the trial.

Cornyn had a good point about Biden getting a hairy leg up on the competition

He's beginning to sniff Victory.

Though I don't know why the parents named their young daughter "Victory".

I would think impeachment would outrank running for President

Maybe they should recuse themselves from being Presidential candidates

I really don't know how in the hot frick these senators can claim that Trump attempting to investigate corruption from a presidential opponent is impeachable election interference, but presidential candidates voting to impeach their opponent isn't.

Trump needs to VERY publicly demand recusal.

The Oath, under the 1986 Rules:
quote:

“I solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be,) that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of [Donald Trump], now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws: So help me God.”
Mitch:
quote:

I'm not an impartial juror .... This is a political process. There is not anything judicial about it. Impeachment is a political decision . . . I'm not impartial about this at all.”
Should Mitch recuse himself as well? Lindsey? Any Senator who has expressed an opinion, either way?

This is political kabuki theatre. Trump will not be removed from office. Silly arguments that one side should recuse in this debacle (but not the other) do nothing but display glaring disingenuousness.

Clearly, you are correct.

However, all they desire is one Republican, just one, to vote guilty so they can claim bipartisan agreement that Trump was guilty.

These people are sickening to watch in their mindless pursuits.

Is Mitch running for president? Because I'm pretty sure Mitch isn't the one claiming that a presidential candidate who uses his/her office to hold another presidential candidate accountable for violating law is committing election interference... except that's exactly what Sanders, Warren, etc... are about to do. And they are doing it on the heels of a massive spying scandal involving their party mates from the prior administration.

You showing up to knight for these dems is the least shocking thing on the internet today. Maybe you can recuse yourself from the thread. That'd be a step in the right direction.

They will get at least one.

Unless Mitt has a heart attack before the vote.

And if I went to a Dem-friendly site, they would be arguing that Mitch should recuse (based upon his own words) and that there is no reason whatsoever that the Dem presidential candidates should recuse.

They would accuse me of being a Right-wing hack, and they would be exactly as disingenuously-partisan as you.

Impeachment in this case is political. End of story.

So that makes it OK for democrat presidential candidates to do, essentially, the same thing they are trying to impeach Trump for?

That's super interesting.

Pence does not have a vote in this as he is directly affected by it. Just as the dem candidates are trying to remove the President as their opponent in the election.
