As President Donald Trump suggests the response to the coronavirus may be going too far, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is urging his administration go further. Cruz — who has emerged as one of the most vocal members of Congress on the dangers the virus poses — wants the administration to tell private manufacturers to begin making ventilators, warning the nation could soon face a shortage.

I thought Trump already invoked the Act?

He didn't. He is counting on private industry participating out of their own free will and not under the control of our wasteful and corrupt federal government.

I don't think so. Trump said yesterday he hasn't done it because industries are stepping up and voluntarily doing what the government asks them to do anyway.

He mentioned several companies who are doing that, Tesla is one that I remember.

I thought Trump's rationale was solid. Let those who have the capabilities and desire fill the need. Why order someone to do something that they are not in position to do?

Hell, if I had the capability I damn sure would be all over it.
Who wouldn't jump at producing something you know there is a market for?

It's easy to cry wolf and shout to the moon and then say...

Ah...my bad, sorry...just taking all precautions.

Sorry you're unemployed.

My bad.

Yeah, we're not in a shooting war where materials and production would have to be centralized. They were making so many masks in RI, the Government asked them to stop.

He did.

He's not utilizing it, yet.

He's using it as a threat to get cooperation.

You wouldn’t if the margins on what you’re making already are higher. You think the margins are higher on a Model X or a face mask? Bear in mind, folks are going to likely be reporting if you’re pushing the price on those masks.

Cruz is a weak-skinned traitor; a wimp to our whole country.

Therein lies the rub, though. Ventilators are not "face masks" and have a higher margin for sure. I agree with your assertion of cost/benefit ratio, but there are other things companies consider (such as public optics and good press).

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — A Rhode Island factory is ramping up production of specialized face masks in response to the federal fight against the new coronavirus.

Honeywell announced Sunday it plans to hire 500 people at its Smithfield plant to produce millions of N95 disposable respirators to help support the need for critical safety equipment.

published today so meaning the 22nd of march they announced the production increase.

We do not need them? ok who cares sell to the world Americans employed and making our own shite win win.
