Now compare the cash on hand figures.

LINK $382b on 1/20

LINK $82b as of 8/17

Cash on hand has gone down $300b, about 3x as much as the figure for the debt. Hence the need for a debt ceiling hike. Treasury is intentionally keeping less cash on hand to generate bullshite headlines for people like you to either believe or cynically spread (honestly not sure in your case).

Right. Secret Service could have the day off if the left would just chill

I have a friend who was on the AFB in Tampa (name escapes me) and Trump made a visit. Not only did the base shut down, the detail as far as cars and security was insane. They even had a helicopter fueled and standing by that never got used.

He said they were even told to not look out the windows.

Don Jr and Eric should be able to pay for their own private security IMO. Same with Tiffany. They're rich.

This would work for Trump's family, but this is a bad precedent to set. It is possible for a future President to not have independently wealthy children who can't pay for their own security, and changing the law in this way would put them in danger.

This isn't a valid comparison. Post the cash on hand amount at this time last year.

$253b as of 8/19/16.

In fact we can do a very direct comparison between Obama '16 and Trump '17 from their January 20 cash on hand, which was $319b for Obama: LINK

Obama had $316b cash on hand as of 1/20/16 and in 8 months it had gone down to $253b. Total outlays from cash on hand $63b.

Trump had $382b cash on hand as of 1/20/17 and in 8 months it has gone down to $82b. Total outlays from cash on hand $300b.

A hefty price to pay for some friendly headlines on Gateway Pundit.

That is a valid comparison.

Do you think it is better to have more cash on hand, or less debt? I would prefer less debt than more cash, so I would like to see an argument against that.

Cash on hand doesn't mean much when you are 19T in debt. That is like saying "I can't be broke, Capital One just raised my limit".

What possible good does it do to "retire" debt on paper for 8-9 months when it's certain to be re-borrowed at a slight premium because of interest rate hikes in the interim?

You're sure the debt will be re-borrowed at a premium?

ETA: What will be your answer if the debt continues to shrink?

In the absence of any actual spending reforms from Congress, it's a certainty.

Under Trump, 42 people have protection, a number that includes 18 members of his family. That's up from 31 during the Obama administration.

That's because most of Obama's family is living in huts in Kenya. Michelle, OTOH, had the largest staff of personal servants in the history of American First Ladies. USA Today didn't cover that.
