@scotusreporter on Twitter: Supreme Court will allow execution of Alabama inmate to move forward on 5-4 vote. Muslim inmate had wanted imam at his side, but state said no, although Christian chaplains are allowed in execution chamber. The court's four liberals say majority is "profoundly wrong"

I am conservative but this seems off. Must be more to the story...

It seems pretty cut and dry. The conservatives (Roberts included), decided he shouldn’t be afforded the same privileges Christian inmates are given. Could we imagine the roles being reversed?

The only thing more I can link is the literal government page, what more is needed?

I wold've ruled in favor of the muzzie here.
Religious freedom guaranteed by the first amendment is religious freedom guaranteed by the first amendment.
They should've allowed an imam there.

What's more is that they didn't give the 11th circuit the chance to opine on the merits of the case.
They just simply vacated the 11th's stay of execution and ordered the execution to proceed. That was wrong.

He killed three kids. I don't care about his feelings.

He’s still American with protections given by the constitution.

If the prison is not going to allow a muslim inmate to have an imam at his execution, then christian inmates cannot have preachers/priests there either.

I don't really give a shite about the rights of Muslim scumbags set to be executed. The state can have someone force bacon down his throat before they execute him, for all I care.

I'm fairly sure the Alabama law requires it to be a Christian minister.
The guy wasn't even asking for a stay because he was trying to get the conviction overturned or that it was cruel and unusual. Just to have an Imam in the room. Seems like the court was just knee jerk against last minute death sentence appeals.

Being a murdering POS abridges quite a few them actually.

Ray was sentenced to death for the 1995 rape and fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Tiffany Harville of Selma. Months before his death penalty trial, he was sentenced to life for a 1994 slaying of two teen brothers.
quote:
"To accommodate Ray’s stated beliefs and the Establishment Clause, the ADOC has amended its protocol and will no longer allow the prison chaplain, or any other spiritual advisor, in the execution chamber," Alabama's emergency motion states. "Like any other inmate, Ray has been and will be given opportunities to speak to his spiritual advisor, including up the moment that he is taken to the chamber. His imam will be allowed to be present, if Ray wishes, albeit in the adjacent viewing room.
Looks like the state changed its protocol, so really a non-issue as far as religous liberty is concerned now. Shoot the POS full of Drano and dump him in the creek.

I'm pretty prejudiced if not outright racist against islamism as a whole. In fact, I would turn the mideast to glass if I could.
And this was a racist and hypocritical decision that puts a black eye on the court's reputation and it had no business being made.

Muslims are a political movement pretending to be a religion.

So they'd rather deny christian inmates their own pastor/preist to look fair denying the muzzie his imam than to let the muzzie have his imam there in his very last moments?
Hypocritical and racist.
