Disagree, they've been that way since before I was alive.

Religious apologetics is the very essence of pseudo-intelligence. It consists of otherwise normal adults arguing over absurd beliefs not considered abject insanity only through various accidents of history.
And this is nothing more than a personal opinion. Nothing more...nothing less.

No offense, but that logic is also kindergarten level.

Not realizing the objective nature of nonsensical behaviors and beliefs is the very essence of insanity.

This right here makes you look as idiotic as those you look down upon. You could have made your point without going there. You aren't as intellectual as you perceive yourself to be.

Don't have a problem with Sam Harris, but I do remember when Dan Carlin made him look kinda silly on Common Sense a few years ago.

On his podcast? I know that didn't happen if so.

The flippancy of the statement isn't reflective of my thoughts on the believer but the belief.

There's a time for engaging people on a level they're willing to meet you at and another for bluntly giving an idea the lack of legitimacy proportional to its absurdity. Lots of very smart and successful and wonderful people believe very silly things.

Are there behaviors or beliefs you would consider objectively insane?

And he's well-educated on the topic. Feel free to discuss anything you feel places you above a "kindergarten level."

I like how you go straight to the strawman instead of telling us what he said...or is that what he said? A bunch of strawman garbage...."all the left does is claim racist, etc...."

lol not knowing who Sam Harris is or how he forms and communicates his opinions.

lol creating a strawman and not realizing the irony of your accusation

I am asking YOU what religious behaviors or beliefs you would consider objectively insane.

All religious beliefs are nonsensical and therefore require faith. A discussion on faith would lead us down an interesting path where I could objectively label a believer as insane.

He is a well-educated scientist. And religion, the existence (or not) of God is the domain of philosophers, theologians, and those trained in religious studies, not scientists.

He studied philosophy at Stanford. He's a neuroscientist and philosopher.

ETA: he's spent decades studying religion.

I am going to take a wild guess and say that you do not even have a proper understanding/definition of faith.

He is a philosopher...his undergrad degree and most of his life was philosophy....his degree in neuroscience came later in life and had more to do with his philosophical explorations.

Additionally, what makes a simple believer and purveyor of religion an expert or mire qualified to opine on the nature of life? They seem to have spent less time than the avg bear contemplating the possibilities. They're def not philosophers.

For any given behavior or belief you offer that is considered objectively insane by most people, I can provide a mainstream religious belief equally as absurd. The point is not that religious people are inherently insane, but that through nothing more than circumstance has a belief in Noah's Ark come to be considered more acceptable than the belief that aliens have placed a microchip in your head.

Of course, you could choose to argue no such cultural standard of insanity exists. That would be an interesting rabbit hole to venture down.
