In as much as we can know anything for which there is no record of and existing records make unlikely.
The Jews of the time were some of the most adept historians in the world, and the Romans loved to catalog everything.
The idea that there was a 2 year genocide of babies is not documented by either but still occurred is a reliance on faith, not historical fact.

The Vatican is home to the Catholic Church, not Italy. It is a sovereign nation on its own.
I know that. My question was why isn't a sovereign nation closer to Syria more obliged to take in these folk than the US, which is oceans away? Why isn't Pope Francis advocating for this; or is he?

Probably because they're a lot closer to filling up.
The US doesn't even crack the top 10.
1. Jordan (2.7 million)
2. Turkey (2.5 million)
3. Pakistan (1.6 million)
4. Lebanon (1.5 million)
5. Iran (979,400)
6. Ethiopia (736,100)
7. Kenya (553,900)
8. Uganda (477,200)
9. Democratic Republic of Congo (383,100)
10. Chad (369,500)
Now if you mean the Vatican itself, then the country is only 110 acres (or 0.17 square miles). They've taken in 728 refugees, so in relation to size they've probably taken in the most (if you calculate refugees per square mile).

I'll concede that the Infant Jesus was a refugee.
That being said, not all refugees are equal. In fact, some aren't really even refugees.

Thanks. I take it those are the # of syrian refugees in each country.
I never really hear about the Vatican bringing in refugees so that's good to hear. Not to belittle the refugees' horrific situation, but that is a pretty cool experience to be living within those walls. I'm not sure they are aware of what all is going on though.

I think it's total refugee population, so including Afghanistan and Yemen (the next two largest source of refugees)
