It's time to get down to business else we end up with another John McCain moment.

If you want to win , running contrary to the majority of your party with a razor thin majority sounds like stupid thing...especially when you are getting ready to inaugurate a President of your party. It's beyond counter productive....it's incredibly stupid.

I was reading your answer, and thinking "because too many people are ignorant normies who don't know how their congressman votes".
Maybe we should start a site with a YouTube channel that keeps tabs on the public votes in the Congress and Senate.
And blast the hell out of them.

I would say that it's a lack of viable primary candidates.
Republicans have a track record of picking weak primary candidates. We have a segment of the party that loves to apply purity tests to candidates, and that backfires spectacularly in local elections. We could easily have had 57 Senate seats this session.

We need to strengthen civics education in the US. It was once a strong point of American education. Now we graduate students from high school who can't tell you their own elected representatives, much less provide an accurate synopsis of complicated political issue.
