Baton Rouge businessman Eddie Rispone (RIHS-poh-nay) filed state paperwork Wednesday declaring his candidacy for the 2019 election.

Rispone tells The Associated Press: "I am definitely running. This is it."

Rispone, founder of an industrial contracting company, is a longtime donor to GOP and conservative campaigns and causes. The wealthy businessman says he plans to invest his own money in what will be an expensive governor's race.

I know the family and they are good people. I look forward to supporting Mr Eddie’s bid for governor

Well I'll definitely be looking at his candidacy with an open mind and I like what I see.

This state could use a businessman that's not funded by special interests instead of the usual donor controlled politicians but I'm not completely married to that mindset as I will support whoever has the best shot of defeating JBE whether it be Rispone, Kennedy or Landry.

The fact of the matter is Louisiana is in a demographic free fall. Productive citizens leave in droves every year and it only accelerated since oil tumbled in 2015 combined with the state government being openly hostile to the industry as it has rebounded literally everywhere else but here.

Louisiana needs a Trump bigly to do on the state level what he is doing on the national level if we are to have a chance at being anything but a Medicaid state in the future. Only an independently wealthy person without any political baggage can do that.

I don't know anything about this guy, but I like everything I have seen so far. He needs a clear field though. Can he get Kennedy to stay in DC and Landry to stay in the AG spot? If so, I have to think he's in.

Yep.

No GOP infighting from backstabbers should be our biggest priority next year and anyone who tries to go scorched earth on a fellow conservative with JBE still in the picture like Dardenne and Angelle did should be shut down immediately.

In a statewide race having .005% name ID (even if 100% positive) is a hurdle that is hard clear.

I agree, but La politics has been a hot mess since day 1. With Trumps help anything can happen. Louisiana is just so far behind though it’ll be tough to catch up. I love Louisiana, but I’m thankful to not be raising my kids there.

So you're staying on the sidelines out of state while we have to do the hard work of cleaning it up?

Mike Foster?

He has plenty of time to get his name out. It remains to be seen how much of his own money he wants to throw at the project though.

He plans to start with $5 million

quote:

"I'm going to put in quite a bit. I've set aside $5 million to get started. We think it's going to cost somewhere between $8 million and $10 million," Rispone said. "I'll start reaching out to my friends around the state raising money."

As I recall Mike Foster was a State Senator when he ran for governor. He also had endorsements from conservative and business organizations. He had significant name ID.

Great plan fund your own statewide losing race for governor. I hope he isn't an idiot as well as being unknown.
