Junior Cuck wants more of our money. Here is a hint for you Jason, if you can't afford to be there then we don't need you there.

quote:

“I really do believe Congress would be much better served if there was a housing allowance for members of Congress,” Chaffetz told The Hill in an interview. “In today’s climate, nobody’s going to suggest or vote for a pay raise. But you shouldn’t have to be among the wealthiest of Americans to serve properly in Congress.”

He's right. So propose that congressmen who are worth less than X amount of dollars get a stipend.

I have no problem whatsoever with a dude who is sick of Congress and out the door talking about the barriers to having normal people in Congress.

We should vote to take away their pay considering they don't do shite while in office.

How cute. The guy that shamed the poor over buying an iPhone instead of health insurance needs help to pay his rent.

So disingenuous. He knows this isn't the barrier to entry for regular people

It's the money and connections to run and win. T

I don't really see this as being a bad thing. I don't want to see an increase in spending anywhere but DC is expensive as hell and he's right about "you shouldn’t have to be among the wealthiest of Americans to serve properly in Congress.”

I'm torn on it. DC is expensive, and most(all?) of them also maintain homes back in their districts. Many also have families to raise. Base pay for Congressmen is $174,000 a year though, so it rings a little hollow to many people getting by on much less.

And it's rich coming from the guy that just one month ago admonished people that couldn't afford health insurance for buying iPhones.

I don't see it as serving the people when it comes with a 204,000 per year salary plus an enormous benefits package. It is time to end making serving the people a lifetime job.

He knew the rules before he signed up for the gig. Does every employee of every business in DC use this line? What separates Chaffetz from other DC denizens? Self-aggrandize much?

100% agree on the second part. A salary of $174,000 with lifetime retirement stipend benefits is plenty.

I don't see any reason why they need to maintain a nice home in DC in addition to their district. Especially when the typical congressional year is 126 work days. Get a fricking Air BnB.

Doesn't like 80% of their work go toward campaigning and raising money for their next election?

Wasn't there a story about that? I think John Oliver did a segment on that. Was pretty good.

Here it is. I know a bunch of his stuff is partisan, but this is one for all of us.

With anything in government this is only the start because you know it will increase every year and before you know it they will be getting 5k per month.

There are at least a handful of House Reps that live in their office. I have seen Chaffetz say in interviews he's slept many nights in his office. It is a legitimate concern, and is another barrier from everyday folks running for office and serving.

I do wonder though what type of homes some of them are maintaining in their district.

The reality is it would be wealthy people having their second home partially financed by the regular person who he claims this would benefit

I guarantee you 100% of those second homes would cost more than $2500 a month
