Remember when the left was the "question authority" side?

I've made similar variations of this thread over the past few weeks but I still cannot believe what the Left is, currently

the DEM playbook is literally from the McCarthy playbook (ironically, the same country of origin is used as the bad guy label). if you question possibly nefarious, evil, and/or illegal behavior by government actors? Russian agent (the parallel to "Communist and/or ""Communist sympathizer")

if you try to expose nefarious, evil, and/or illegal behavior by government? you are committing an "assault on the integrity" of [insert government institutions'. you know who is the latest DEM politician to use that? John Kerry. how did John Kerry get famous? questioning the integrity of our military in the Vietnam fricking War

Statement in 1971

quote:

I would like to talk representing of all those veterans and say that several months ago in Detroit we had an investigation at which over 150 honorably discharged, and many very highly decorated, veterans testified to war crimes committed in Southeast Asia.

*These were* not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command. It's impossible to describe to you exactly what did happen in Detroit -- the emotions in the room and the feelings of the men who were reliving their experiences in Vietnam. But they did. They relived the absolute horror of what this country, in a sense, made them do.

he even asks Congress of all people to help solve an issue with the Executive

quote:

We are asking here in Washington for some action, action from the Congress of the United States of America which has the power to raise and maintain armies and which by the Constitution also has the power to declare war. We've come here, not to the President, because we believe that this body can be responsive to the will of the people; and we believe that the will of the people says that we should be out of Vietnam now.

his statement today:

quote:

The Nunes memo is dangerous, ugly, and an assault on the integrity of the institutions of our country. I lived through Watergate/Nixon: America pays a very steep price when a political party tries to undermine the institutions that hold us together

WHAT? in the same argument he says "trust your government. do not ever question your government" or else you risk "an assault on the integrity of the institutions of our country". in the SAME QUOTE he cites Watergate/Nixon, which would have never been exposed if not for a fricking assault on the integrity of our institutions.

so, fellow liberals on this board. when will you call out your leftist/DEM leaders for supporting authoritarianism?

authoritarians love/are intoxicated by the power of the state so much they attack anyone questioning potential misuse of that power. that's why secret police develop in authoritarian nations. the secret police are the arm of government used to commit crimes against the population to keep it scared and in line. they commit grave crimes against the population because they do so the protection of knowing that anyone who questions the secret police will be labeled an enemy of the state (for their "assault on the institutions of government").

history is watching those on the left. you cannot sit on both sides of this argument

and yes, i know there are lots of LEO bootlickers on the right who are now questioning the FBI. we all expect those guys to waffle, just like the religious right being hypocrites on Trump's behavior. that whataboutism is not needed in this discussion because those Fox News addicts are already exposed, and have been for decades

You see, that's where you're wrong. No wall text of argument, no matter how logical, will stop them. Thankfully, there are other methods of correcting poor behavior.

The transition from the liberals of the 60s and 70s is astonishing.

the DEM playbook

Nowadays known as the Resistance Party. The Reps could come out with a bill giving all legal citizens a $5,000 tax free stipend and the Dems would bitch using one of two arguments - what about the illegals and why not a $10,000 stipend?

Dems would argue water is not wet just for argument's sake.

when i was a raging prog, this distrust in government (Especially LEO/prosecutions) was a major factor in that

that aspect of my ideology has not left me. that is 100% non-negotiable

government, from local to federal, commits all sorts of bad behavior against the respective citizenry. it is always to be questioned and examined in order to ensure that the government is still a body that represents the people (instead of the government itself)

you cannot reconcile "shut up and trust your government or else you're the enemy" with the entire progressive ideology. the entire point of that ideology is that society and government must progress (often via force/protest) to eliminate some sort of oppression against a marginalized class.

the easiest "go to" for this discussion is BLM. BLM is literally a movement that is attacking the integerity of the very same government institution (LEO) that the authoritarians like Schiff and Kerry are saying can't be attacked .

they all did up until the point when they got their hands on the levers of power

after that they suddenly wanted to use that machinery to shape the world in their own image

and hold on to it at any cost

I don't have many liberal friends and there are several reasons for that. The ones I did have really showed their asses after Trump won the election. I see how many of them are though when things go their way they are your friends then when they don't they cry and whine like little bitches. If the Clintons, the Obamas, Hollywood, Nancy Pelosi, etc. are whom these liberals look up too and their news of choice is CNN, CNBC, etc. GOOD RIDDENCE.
