Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday moved to hold a vote this week on increasing the federal minimum wage. Reid filed cloture on the motion to proceed to legislation from Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) that would increase the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour. The vote will be a major test of unity for Senate Democrats, who have made the wage hike central to their populist agenda for the midterm elections. Some vulnerable Democrats up for reelection have expressed concern about the wage increase, citing a Congressional Budget Office report that Harkin’s bill would harm job growth.

They ignore statistics, studies and all kinds of evidence that minimum wage does not work for political gain. Such is life in DC.

Really? Tell me how they will be treated by the media if they vote no. Tell me how they will be treated by their base if the vote yes.

The whole thing is a plea to the uninformed useful idiots. Most McDonalds workers will think this applies to them and every Union will vote for it. It's a topic the Rs can't win in the public opinion.

Not really. Most people who have ever held a minimum wage job know that it's for teenagers. No real reason to raise it.

Minimum wage increases = everything else gets expensive. The data is there to support it.

This sucks. Minimum wage will increase but my pay rate will stay the same. I will effectively make less.

You're assuming most of the American electorate understands that.

How is it a loss when this passes and the economy goes even deeper into perpetuated recession and "income inequality" rises even more on the libs watch and pubs can post out that they didn't vote for this populist nonsense? It's antithetical to the needs of our economy. Just need more Americans to wise up and realize it .

Sweet, so if this passes, I will expect an increase in my salary to offset the increased price of goods and to keep the $$$ that my hard work has earned in the same proportion to minimum that it already is.

I'm not as cynical as some in regards to the intellectual comportment of the American people. Ideology gives way to rationality and self interest eventually.
