How can the same people who support minimum wage increase, also support the influx of millions of unskilled workers from Mexico?
Do the basic principles of supply and demand not make sense to them?

No. Only votes do.

I'm not as cynical as some in regards to the intellectual comportment of the American people. Ideology gives way to rationality and self interest eventually.
You're either delusional, or terribly optimistic about the "intellectual component" of this country.
There are far too many people voicing their support for increased minimum wage, and far too few who are voicing the actuality that increased minimum wage will severely damage our already fragile economy.
Employees being paid minimum wage are worth just that...minimum wage. There are plenty of jobs out there that pay more than minimum wage for folks that want to work a little harder. Minimum wage jobs are there for high school kids' first jobs.
Even still, if you start at minimum wage somewhere and: show up on time or before, learn your job, do it well, show that you are happy to have that job, (no matter how crummy), and display an attitude conducive to learning/adapting..you can advance yourself to making more than minimum wage in no time. I'd rather earn a raise than have Congress dictate a higher minimum wage, and be at risk of losing a job because the company needs to lay-off employees to maintain profitability.

Hmmmm
My assistantship is based off of minimum wage
Thats what these morons don't realize... If you increase minimum wage, everything else is going to proportionaly tick up in response.
1) The cost of goods in minimum wage jobs is going to go up to compensate
2) People, like myself, who started their work lives at minimum wage and bettered themselves to get where they are today are going to want increases.
If I work hard to get X above minimum wage, I want to still be X above minimum wage if it goes up.

Because the legal citizens will end up htting the government dole once the minimum wage increases cause them to lose their jobs because businesses layoff/automate to compensate for the wage increases.
Then the new illegals who flood in will still work under the table for pennies on the dollar as usual.
It's a win for Democrats.

They should tack it to the inflation rate and stop bothering with this every few years.
