Based on the incompetence of the CEO, the lack of funds actually reaching those in need and things like this, how is this fraud organization still allowed to operate?

Red Cross admits to staying in high-priced Houston hotel

HOUSTON (KTRK) --
At least one city leader is questioning the Red Cross's choice of hotels while coming to Houston to help with Harvey relief.

City Councilman Dave Martin dubbed the charity the "Red Loss." He made the point last week at city hall, claiming he hadn't seen the charity in his district.

Five days later, they still haven't shown up in Kingwood, Martin claims.

Flood victims like Ronald Leggett, who live in Kingwood echo Martin's complaints.

"I haven't seen them," Leggett said. "I've been here almost every day."

But that's not what really has Martin upset.

Some of the luckiest Red Cross volunteers are staying the night at the St. Regis Hotel, one of the city's finest 5-star places to spend the night.

The charity paid $179 a night and said it was doubling people up in each room. That's not enough for Councilman Martin, who has six friends staying with him.

"I totally understand what the optics might look like on that, but it's not something we do routinely," Red Cross spokesman Charles Blake said. "It probably does send the wrong message. We got a very discounted rate at the St. Regis."

Red Cross are fraudsters

bullshite. St. Regis is located in the exclusive Galleria area. Many of the rooms at 3 local hotels - also nice hotels - have plenty of vacancies. Tons of other options especially considering 90% of the city is back to being functional.

Thats not exactly living in luxury. There's plenty to criticize the red cross for - effectively $90/per occupant hotel room isnt one.

Same shite with Planned Parenthood. They host a huge soiree including overnight hotels in an UBER rich area of California. They literally book the whole hotel + rooms. It's disgusting and amazing no one takes these f'ers to task.

Yeah, I was sort of onboard with the idea that there are probably some pretty big issues with the Red Cross, but when I see something like this couched as a "slam piece", it makes me suspect that maybe someone has an agenda.

His agenda is that the Red Cross hasn't done anything in his part of the city that got hit hard, and he's pissed.

And $180 per night for a hotel room is excessive for a charity organization that really just needs a place to rest their head at night.

$90/person a night isn't extreme at all. No one would even know if it wasn't the St. Regis.

If they were staying in single-king rooms at the Courtyard off 290 for $125/nt the story wouldn't have been published and they would have been wasting $35 more a night per person.

Anyone giving to the Red Cross after 911 is a fool.

I've been in trick bags like this traveling for work, where you can find a good deal at a place like the St. Regis or a Ritz Carlton that can be significantly less than a Hampton Inn or Courtyard in the same city, and for "perception" purposes with clients and the like, you have to end up staying at the more expensive Hampton.

Same. And I turn down rental car upgrades regularly...one location wanted to give me an Escalade.

When you can go literally less than a mile away and get a room for $90/night, that is abusing funds that should be earmarked for say.....hurricane victims?

For how long? How many rooms? With two beds? At that same rate?

Willing to bet someone just pulled up Expedia for tonight and is like "OMG the Best Western is $90/nt tonight!" Nevermind that they're sold out tomorrow, or don't have enough rooms to accommodate the group.

Then the headline will read "Red Cross kicks flood victims out from their hotel!"

Don't know, but I have 3 good friends who all work for hotels and have vacancies nearby. And they aren't shabby hotels either.

Plus, we have a pretty large conference here in town this week and St. Regis is definitely a hotel the conference go-ers would like to stay at.....BUT considering Red Cross has a block of rooms @ $179/night x 20+ rooms, of course St. Regis would take that deal.

That's fine. They may have vacancies, but if they can't accommodate X number of double rooms for Y time at a rate better than $179/nt...its moot.

If you have a large conference in Houston this week, the attendees booked their rooms at the requisite conference hotels long before Harvey and those room blocks were negotiated at minimum of 10 months ago.
