My church is strongly considering not allowing any marriages in our church. Go get a hall. We aren’t going to be trapped.

Catholic Church won’t do that. Marriage is an important sacrament that needs to be administered

If you are so stupid you can't figure out how to NOT hire them, you shouldn't be in a position to hire.
Do your research before you interview. If you never interview a questionable applicant, the chances are very slim for legal problems. Once you interview, all bets are off.

It is a good question, and likely one that will end up being taken up to the Supreme Court at some point.
I lean that the first amendment supersedes Title VII.
There are a few scenarios I don’t know if the church fully considered. What if someone was born a man, transitions to a woman (or at least lives as one) but dates/is married to a woman?
Also, catholic schools routinely overlook divorce and premarital sex. It’s really a don’t ask don’t tell situation.
