Foreign policy does not have a lot of political salience in the US as long as things are not going poorly.
The GOP's risk in 2026 is the flip flop of voter profiles: libs are the wealthy voters with a lot of free time to vote in primaries and midterms; conservatives have more working class voters who only show up every 4 years.
GOP has not done that well in any of the midterms since 2016 (2018 and 2022). 2022 was about the most tepid oppositional party wave midterms in some time. Well short of expectations and many very poorly chosen candidates in contentious elections.
GOP has a problem with turning people out to vote who show up for Trump. Pure and simple.
