Byte Dance is domiciled in China and subject to Chinese law that compels them to share data with the Chinese government at any time.
Why should that not be a concern?
Also, ByteDance has its own in-house Communist Party committee.

There is documented evidence that the senior leaders and managers have to sign agreements to commit to the thoughts and ideas of the Chinese communist Party, including requiring CCP training on party ideas and requirements of a Chinese company. The is direct flow of data to China and there is direct influence on the algorithm by the CCP.
Turning off the site isn’t an issue on freedom of speech as there are plenty of platforms to use that are still open.
All that being said I think cooler heads will prevail and a solution that is agreeable to bytedance, CCP, and the USA.

Tell us how Johnny using TikTok in his free time is putting you in anymore jeopardy than what you’re already in by China or the US Govt.
Was it Johnny posting there was drones flying over his neighborhood on tiktok the concern or the US government who did nothing? What about the Chinese spy balloon?

Trump and congress say that TikTok needs to be sold in order to protect national security. There must be a major concern there if that's the case.

Ask President Trump: This is from his EO about Tiktok in 2020. "This data collection threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information — potentially allowing China to track the locations of Federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage."

Trump has changed his mind. I can pull many threads from posters who are crying that said Trump never learns and he’s set in his ways. Now you guys are mad he’s listening to 170 million Americans saying they’re fine and take the risk on themselves in a free country.

Since this morning? He said today that his EO would be an extension so that he can negotiate a sale "to protect our national security".

So now you are moving the goalposts from "muh free speech" to "what difference does it make"?

So you can’t answer how someone enjoying their freedom affects you. You just don’t like it and Trump so that’s why your position is what it is.

He has the same position as Trump. The CCP needs to divest from TikTok.
You're going to ignore that part all day aren't you?

Trump obviously feels different than before. Again keep ignoring that.

Tik Tok is for trans, gays and soy boys.
Posted on 1/19/25 at 3:15 pm to JoeHackett
So he wants the US government to have a 50% stake in tik tok.

Why is he walking this back?
In August 2020, President Trump issued an Executive Order finding that “the spread in the United States of mobile applications developed and owned by companies in China continues to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.” Exec. OrderNo. 13942, 3 CFR 412 (2021).
President Trump determined that TikTok raised particular concerns, noting that the platform “automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users” and is susceptible to being used to further the interests of the Chinese Government.
Just days after issuing his initial Executive Order, President Trump ordered ByteDance Ltd. to divest all interests and rights in any property “used to enable or support ByteDance’s operation of the TikTok application in the United States,” along with “any data obtained or derived from” U. S. TikTok users.

Well that part might be retarded. Unless he was just talking about an American company.
But if you agree with Trump this morning that the CCP has to divest from TikTok in order to protect our national security... you have TDS.
So now agreeing with Trump = TDS

To me, no. Not at all.
I'm far more concerned about our govt spying on us than China, they cant do shite to me.

I get your point but at least US companies and the three letter agencies are subject to oversight and regulation by Congress who we appoint so we have some agency here......in theory anyway,
