re: Rand Paul against the tariffs

He's never been an isolationist. He's been closer to a libertarian throughout most of his career. Anti war, less regulation, and less government interference on trade. His view on the market has more or less been a "hands off" approach. If you have to protect an industry with tariffs, then maybe that industry isn't long for this world.
And to a certain extent, I'd agree with his views. For example, if I wanted to import a cheap Toyota IMV 0 pickup truck (which retails for 10k abroad), I should be able to do so without the government asking for a tarrif handout or imposing regulation that makes it virtually impossible to make it "road worthy".

I must have missed the part where Rand Paul was re-elected President and this time also won the popular vote.

Thats not how it works. W'eve ran deficits since the end of Bretton Woods. I'll let you figure out why.
Yes that is exactly how it works. Printing money devalues the dollar and boosts inflation. Economics 101. It is not debatable. The deficits must stop period.

Folks like Rand Paul and Thomas Massie lap Trump's stupid arse.
Trump ain't perfect, but he has done way more than speaking big words from their chairs in Congress, and strongly written letters.

Sure. He's fricked over this country. Repeatedly. Then ran his mouth on Twitter when better men called him out for it.

We arent talking about inflation. We're talking about trade deficits.
Youre having a convo with yourself.

Great opinion. Will not read again.

His lack of foresight is astonishing. Let’s just stay beholden to the production lines of other countries in perpetuity. You have to start somewhere whether that’s American companies investing here or foreign companies investing here. I’d say Trump is off to a good start.

Liberty is far too scary for the average American. Most vote for the loud, shiny object.
He's at his political limit.

Trade deficits and the deficit is hooked together like a fly nesting on a pile of crap.

Do you want to bring those industries back to the United States or not? It's a simple question
Why do people keep repeating this line from the early 1980s? Guess what, with some small exception, manufacturing like we had in the 1960s is not coming back, ever, without serious and drastic changes to our society and our laws. Manufacturers who get hit with higher tariffs will simply move or build new factories in countries that don't have tariffs (this is already happening).

You do realize that our tariffs will actually make manufacturers come here to avoid the tariffs right?

Only if long term, which is harmful to the economy.

That's some pent up rage, man. I'm sure you were happy when Biden was in charge, but things will be ok.

You do realize that means we'll be paying more for those products, right?

Something is wrong with you.
Tariffs will have to be long term. If you need pictures, I can oblige.

Yep. Short time pain for long time gain. Also, in some industries it is very important to our national security (steel, copper, aluminum etc).

Like Honda opening an Indiana Hybrid plant over putting it in MX... something like that?? Or the Taiwanese chip making announcement in AZ??
I also find it interesting this announcement/article from Friday didn't get much traction.
