One America News Network’s parent company, Herring Networks, argued that Maddow besmirched the company during a 2019 episode of her show while discussing a Daily Beast article that reported one OAN contributor also worked for the the Russian-based news site Sputnik. “In this case, the most obsequiously pro-Trump, right-wing news outlet in America really literally is paid Russian propaganda,” said Maddow during the episode.

Was hoping OAN would win this one. Our libel/ slander laws need an overhauling.

Are they literally nonexistent?

Literally literally has no literal meaning.

You want more lawsuits for this? Frick that, I can’t imagine the miserable world it would usher in.

What percentage of judges make rulings that don’t side with their politics these days?

Any ideas on what can be done about it without handcuffing any legitimate journalism that may arise in the future? I agree that the lack of a trustworthy media is a big problem, arguably the biggest existential threat we've ever faced. The 4th estate has abandoned it's post and I don't see an answer.

Partial win for OANN. They now have a court ruling that says Madcow's statement was opinion and not fact.

They also forced her to admit in open court that her viewers shouldn't believe anything she says.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I think slander/libel laws should require a very high bar to win.

The UK had a much different set of laws which makes it much easier to win. In fact I think the laws over there limit speech too much.

This was a pretty straight up lie by maddow.

But we all here are big supporters of free speech.

Would it be fair to suggest that so called news sources be held to a higher standard? Perhaps but would require a law change.

Also it wouldn't supply here because maddow is pretty clearly just opinion.

How many times out of 10 can you predict a judge's ruling based solely on who appointed them? 8? 9? That's not how it's supposed to work. At least on the right there is some difference of opinion on the scope of federal authority but by and large GOP appointees are just a hair less predictable than the totalitarian left.

I understand your concern but there has to be some more stringent standards placed on news and news/political opinion shows. It's one thing to give an opinion based on facts but that's not what's going on with today's DimMedia. These Dim propaganda outlets are truly lying without shame or consequence to gullible Americans.

So, according to this POS Filth judge, Maddow is an opinion show.

I can live with that. That is what that moron Hannity is.

So you can say whatever the frick you want under the guise of "opinion."

Fine,EVERY reporter or commentator who injects their "opinion" into a newscast needs to have a disclaimer running before, during and at the end of their show stating that what they're saying/reporting isn't accurate and just an opinion.

What about MULTIPLE reporters who continually inject their opinions into their reporting?

Jim Acosta and almost every member of the WH press Corp does this. Not to mention CBS,NBC,WAPO and NYT.
