It was a dumb thing to say. I don't think he was trying to downplay WWII or Hitler at all -- I think it was just an unfortunate situation where the statement "came out wrong."

I think he meant that Hitler didn't use chemical weapons in combat, which is true. But in today's climate, you have to be very careful with offending a certain golden protected group even if there is a nugget of truth in what you say.

Yea he should go, but that was true awhile ago. He has no credibility with the press and clearly isn't in close communication with the rest of the staff considering how often they all give conflicting statements about pretty much anything. He needs to go and they need to start over with a fresh face.

Edit: people say really stupid shite when they are under a lot of pressure, but this was a really bad gaffe, and it illustrates how he is just bad at his job.
