You don't have much of a choice in the United States to vote for someone who shares your religious views UNLESS those views include magic and boogey men. Very few openly atheist elected officials in the US. If you are going to vote for people who admit to being mentally ill (believing in god as an adult is a gateway psychosis) what difference does it make which religion it is? Islam in the United States is about as similar to Islam in the middle east as Catholicism in the US is similar to Catholicism in Africa. Muslims ain't more of a threat nor or they more dangerous than any other group that teaches mass delusion. Have you ever been to Salt Lake City or parts of Idaho???? I'd much prefer interacting with Muslims in Detroit than Mormons in Idaho.....I am about even on interacting with Muslims in the US and Southern Baptists...all of them are either lying or mentally ill.....

Well I used to spend a lot of summers in Sandpoint and there's a little of everything there for sure. The mayor was a female socialists. Sandpoint was invaded by the hippies back in the 50s & 60s. I like the area physically but I don't care for the people.

Putting aside the people who actually follow islam, what is it about the religion itself or its Prophet that make you all so quick to defend it?

I can't speak for all leftists, but I can speak for me. I don't defend Islam. I think it is wrong-headed, but I think the same of all religions outside of Christianity, and I think there's a lot of wrong-headedness in Christianity as well.

Is it the fact mohammed was a brutal warmongerer?

The Old Testament is full of brutal warmongers, some on the side of the Christian God. It's unfortunate and nuanced in many ways, but it's true.

Is it the fact he was a pedophile?

The ancient world was different, as evidenced by King David murdering a man so that he could have his wife, among many other horrifying acts in the Old Testament.

Is it the fact he owned hundreds, maybe thousands of slaves?

Christians in the New Testament owned slaves. Of course, none of them were as important in the Bible as Mohammed is in the Koran, but it's still true.

Is it the fact the religion itself never underwent a rebirth (ala Christianity)?

Christianity isn't a rebirth of Judaism, it's the continuation of the story of God's chosen people.

Is it the fact islams' Holy Book gives instructions on beating and sexually taking women agains their will?

Read the Old Testament. There are VERY clear instructions on how to take the women of tribes defeated in battle as "wives" and slaves.

Is it the fact that large swaths of islams' followers admit to holding very, very UN-modern thoughts regarding freedom of religion and speech?

I would criticize anyone holding those beliefs about freedom of religion and speech (in the US) equally, no matter their religion.

Is it the fact that millions and millions of its followers hate Jews?

Millions and millions of Christians hate Jews and Muslims.

Is it the fact that the religion is unbelievably misogynistic in so many ways?

Christians don't have the best track record on this, either. Look at the "Christians" on this board and the way they talk about women for simple examples. But misogyny should also be criticized and fought against.

What is unique to islam that gives you Leftists a hard-on for defending islam, yet quickly sharting on Christianity?

I think there is a difference between criticizing the beliefs and actions of certain people and criticizing an entire religion. I have faith in Jesus Christ but can still see how His teachings (and the teachings of the authors of both the Old and New Testaments) have been perverted by Christians for thousands of years to uphold the strong and take advantage of the weak, which is the opposite of what Jesus taught and the opposite of what the entire Bible teaches. It's not surprising - the world is a broken place. But Muslims are human beings, created in God's image, just like Christians and Jews and atheists and everyone, and how we treat them is equivalent to how we treat Jesus. So, while I cannot possibly defend another religion, I will defend all people made in the image of the Creator to the best of my ability.

Let's have a little experiment.

We'll have two women. One wears a MAGA hat and the other wears a hijab. Both will walk in numerous place in public and we'll see which one gets the most harassment

"Chosen people"...huh...now let's see here...exactly WHO did this choosing? If you quote the "bible", I'll lose interest immediately. The Thais think they are chosen. The Chinese think they are . Who gets to decided who is right?!

no argument here but that's kind of how it should be IMO. Harassed for a political statement and not for a religious symbol

It is surprising that Butt boy running for president has criticized VP Pence, but hasn't said a dang thing about the Muslims. I think he should go to Tehran and try to convince them tha homosexuals are not the children of Satan. That would be very progressive of him.

Christianity is full of bad people who did terrible things. They were forgiven, but it doesn't change what they did.

Bible on Slavery

quote:

5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

King David and King Solomon were not exactly pacifist either.

LINK ]esther and ruth

And it wasnt TOO LONG ago, that Republicans weren't exactly fans of homosexuality. And the bible explicitly says it's a sin regardless.

quote:

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. (Leviticus 20:13)

Anti semitism ties to white nationalism

They white nationalist hate BOTH groups. But whatever helps the narrative, huh?

All Abrahamic Faiths are inherently misogynistic. Again, I will admit Christianity is doing better.

Their is nothing unique to Islam, Judaism, Catholicism, or Protestantism.

People cherry pick their arguments.

What is a "prog point"? You do realize most religious leaders are very progressive...don't you? They aren't the Pat Robertsons of the world....that's a political talking head wrapped on religion.....religion is VERY progressive....

The prophet Mohammed was a nihilist of the West. Hence, Islam is the religion of Satan.
