I’m 62 years old, was a Democrat until age 30-31. Both of my parents were old school Harry Truman blue collar Democrats from the Greatest Generation. I was raised Democrat during the 60’s and 70’s where the stereotype was a Democrat was of the working class and Republicans were the wealthy privileged class.

I gave you a little background so you would understand my previous affiliation with the Democrat party. The beginning of my separation from the Democrat party was around 1989-90. I had just graduated from a technical college, every job I applied for that called me in for an interview was non union, this was new territory for me, all my previous jobs were union representation.

I landed a job with a small company and the radio, which was played throughout the facility was always tuned to the same AM radio station…..yeah, no Muzak. Every day during the week at 11AM Rush Limbaugh was on that AM station and I wanted to shut that shite off. I can’t remember the day but I remember Rush talking about American exceptionalism and rugged individualism and that really started me thinking and paying closer attention to the Maharushie. It didn’t take long after that and I realized the Democrat party had morphed from the party of the blue collar working class to the party of the self imposed victim class……..I was done, and never looked back.

Appreciate your post. I have absolutely no idea what it is like being a democrat. I was a union man at my occupation for 42 years and not once have I ever voted for a Democrat president, senator, representative, governor or mayor.

I'm just funny that way. When I was about 12 or 13 I asked my dad one day what the difference was between a democrat and a republican. His short answer - a democrat wants to take the money you earn and a republican wants you to keep it. That is still pretty much the truth 55 years later. I chose at an early age that I would like to keep what I earned.

Hillary begging for Syrian refugees after me and my good buddies got jumped at knifepoint by Afghanis in London.

I was never a democrat, just ignorant before then.

Good advice from your pappy. I wasn’t too political until Slick Willie, and that grifter got me really engaged in voting against every Dim possible. There was something about this BS below here that was a premonition of shite to come and I knew it.

Solid post. Same here. Rush turned me.

Then Thomas Sowell locked me in.

Legends. Unicorns. Throw in Milton Friedman and we’re 3/4s of the way to a better Mount Rushmore.

The 4th? Maybe Hayek, but I’m open to more ideas before I start funding it.

My father in law was a democrat until Clinton. He hated the man and his “satans spawn of a wife”.

He was a union railroad man and ended up become one of the most conservative people I know.

It was an amazing journey.

Trump telling it like it is, i was dead set on voting hillary in 2016 and all the other people just talk down. I hated Obama though but hated McCain and Romeny more, no one I can respect.

Then Trump started to address my every day concern. Being a first generation immigrant, I was thought by my parents aka Legal Immigrants that this country values gave them everything and that you should want it preserved. So Trump address my primary concern, border security, illegal aliens, china, the weakning of the american middle class as buisness leave us. I think I really remember things going wrong with America when our Olympic team started to use stuff made from China. That their excuse was that no American company made the specialized equipment they needed so they had to use Chinese items.

That to me was wrong on so many level. So that sold me on Trump. I still didn't think he would win but the glorious bastard destoryed his republican foes and on 2016 my parents, and most of my sisters punch the ticket for him. They did the same in 2020 but in horror saw the election being stolen and can only laugh it off that what they came to America to avoid was here now.

Interesting, I worked for a railroad from age 20 until age 29. Our Maintenance of Way union was pretty weak compared to the locomotive engineers Union. If they went on strike we all went on strike, if the Maintenance of Way workers threaten to go on strike the locomotive engineers union would let us know what they thought about our plans…lol!

Living in a city where white people were in the minority, and experiencing anti-white racism. In western Arkansas, I never even went to public school with anything but good ole white country people.

NW Arkansas people are just now experiencing that kind of stuff.
