You are actually proving that illegals are taking American jobs, and the proof is in the fact that wages are be driven downward by people willing to work for less. This "study" of alternative facts completely ignores the concept of increased costs to produce a product leading to more innovation and efficiency.

Hunger is a great motivator - let the lazy asses fend for themselves - take away all welfare, unemployment, health care, etc for any able bodied male who refuses to do a legitimate job when available.

Work or starve.

either way - win/win

Good for you I guess to support big corps and their desire for cheap labor and higher profits.

Glad you support politicians desire to hold down inflation by any means necessary so as to get re-elected.

All while those jobs for middle Americans drain away.

True patriot you are.

Don't know much about agriculture do you? Fermented grape juice can sell for hundreds of dollars a gallon, but only when grapes are harvested at perfection! Actually, entry level Napa Valley farmworkers are regularly hired for a minimum wage of $12/hour. Experienced Napa Valley farmworkers and those with certificates and additional training can be paid as much as $40/hour. Not your average pickle picker's wage! I think they can find many Americans to pick for $40 and high school kids will jump all over $12!

You loose your bet Grasshopper!

I don't want illegals period! I'm ok for legal workers picking agriculture for cheap if it cannot afford a wage high enough for Americans and compete with foreigners.

For example strawberries! Most Americans won't walk into a hot dusty strawberry field for less than about $15/hour. But Mexico will put them out of business at that labor point.

Don't know about you, but I trust American berries over Mexican even if Mexicans legally pick them for $8. But they must go home when visas expire!

Herein lies the problem....the person writing this suffers from the same delusion that $9.70 an hour is what it costs to pick cucumbers because that is what it pays. The true costs are whatever it costs the person picking the cucumber to show up to work fueled and physically able to pick the cucumber....not what they are being paid to do so but what it costs for that person to be able to do so. If the true cost is $20 an hour we are paying that....through subsidized housing and subsidized food and subsidized health care etc etc etc. The farmer is also paying for those subsidies. The cost of picking cucumbers has absolutely nothing to do with what people picking cucumbers earns while picking cucumbers anymore than the cost of getting a ditch dug with a backhoe has to do with what the person needing the ditch is willing to pay.....it is all about the cost of production and we pay one way or the other.....either we all pay collectively through taxes are the producer pays and recovers the expense in the price of the product produced....there is no such thing as a free lunch....

Just a thought...welfare reform. You work in these jobs. If you don't make enough to live off of and support your family, welfare kicks in to cover the rest. If you are able bodied yet refuse to work, "No soup for you!" I don't mind helping folks who need it, but you have to help yourself first.

We built a new facility in 2012. Almost all of the laborers were migrants. Most could speak little if any english.

It is a horribly built facility and there's not a door that is square and aligned. They were hired because they were cheap but they do crappy work. They did steal American jobs because these were decent jobs. The contractor just didn't want to pay.

Eff them and send them home.

0.5% of migrants are farm workers.

What's your story on the other 99.5%?

My father's business's was destroyed by illegal labor.

Yes, yes, and yes!

You hit the nail on the head here. Please re-read this if you don't quite understand...

TJGator1215, it is as if you have a 5th grade understanding of economics when you take that linked story and combine it with the lie of your thread headline. YOU ARE FAKE NEWS!

So agriculture is the only employment category for illegal immigration?? Really?

What about all the downward pressure that illegal immigration puts on wages in our cities and towns? If it weren't for illegal immigrants (and even some legal immigration practices), there wouldn't even need to be a push for a $15/hr minimum wage, because employers would be forced to raise wages.

That is the problem, illegal immigration sucks down wages, how do you dumb liberal motherfrickers not realize this?

I own a small lawn care company. When I advertise help wanted $9 an hr I get 40-50 replies in a week. Mostly from Americans trying to find work.

I wonder if entitlements have caused this low participation in the work force? Every where you go, now hiring. It's not just farm jobs people don't want.

I've been hiring a nice Black guy to do my lawn care for 20 years. He started at $40 a mow and weed eat, he's now up to $90 each time. That's OK, I understand inflation, but, last year a Mexican in an old truck was waiting down the street watching. When my Black guy left, he drove to my house, came in my yard, got my attention and said in broken English, 40 dala, fo t dala. He offered to undercut the American from $90 to $40. I asked for his green card and he took off, speeded away fast. He was illegal. I kept my American Black guy. Yes,Mexicans are taking jobs away from Americans. In my store, my floor wax company guys were undercut by a new guy. I decided to give this guy a chance. He walked in at 10:00 at night to wax our floor and two Mexicans walked in as his employees to do the work. That's why he was cheaper. It took 3 jobs from Americans. I fired him after that one job and went back to the 3 American guys.
