quote:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has postponed a vote on constitutional change that would allow him to stay in power, because of coronavirus concerns.

He said the public vote - previously due to be held on 22 April - would be delayed until a "later date".

The proposed changes include scrapping a ban on allowing Mr Putin to run for office again

I mean what kind of dictator would he be if he allowed people to just vote on things?

So, if the vote doesn't take place, then the constitutional change is not enacted, and he will not be able to run again.

I think people are taking this the wrong way. Postponing the vote doesn't allow him to stay in office.

If he was to postpone the election, then the dictator claims would be more justifiable.

"Elections." I'm sure those will be perfectly valid when they happen.

Putin probably doesn't want to be in office for the next 20 years, but is likely scared of what will happen if he leaves. A common worry among dictators.

Why doesn't just go ahead and declare himself Tsar and be done with it?

Russians sure love their autocrat rulers.

So he is postponing a vote that would allow him to stay in power? So as of now he can't stay in power and postponing a vote to change that?

So isn't this the opposite of what people are taking away from this?
