100% to prevent NATO’s expansion.
To rid Ukraine of Nazis This is mentioned in Russia as a secondary objective, but not the main reason for the invasion. It's an added bonus.
To reaffirm their control of the Crimea Peninsula? Nope, don't need to. It's already Russian.
Re-unify Ukraine with Russia? Nope, the war won't impact that one bit. Ukrainians are still welcome in Russia and many emigrate there. There are more opportunities.

Agree. It was a mistake to invade Ukraine. And we are wasting billions on that craphole area.

If NATO was dissolved after the USSR fell apart then perhaps this war would never have happened. We'll never know. Because the motive for Putin's actions may be due to encirclement by NATO. But perhaps he would have done it to restore the USSR. My guess is that he would not. He came to power initially before NATO started encroaching and he didn't start any invasions back then. We'll never know.
