re: Punishing tariffs to be rolled back according to reports today

The government is set to roll back at least some of the tariffs it has imposed on American importers and manufacturers.

I would be all for the government helping US companies move production back to the US by removing cost in the US for things like regulations, product liability and tariffs.
I would love to see Trump talk about loser pay and free trade and plant specific pollution regs instead of general declarations that are too broad.
We would not import anything from China if we could have relief on one environmental law (the only US manufacturer of the product we import has grandfathered relief from this regulation in a perfect example of crony capitalism). It is a an input in our manufacturing process that if manufactured here as it is in China would not have environmental impact. We have some screwy regs in the US.

Point to something specifically you think I was wrong on.

If this happens,it’s a smart move.
Trump needs to remove the chokes until he gets re elected and then put the screws to china bigtime.

What are you talking about Shorty?
You told me this wasn't about IP protection and forced partnerships in China as I pointed out for months.
You told me this was about punishing China and that the Chinese were paying the tariffs. That it was about making the Chinese economy collapse or something.

Productive tariffs to be rolled back according to reports today
Fixed.
All the Trump tariffs have been tied to milestones. "Once you agree to x, we will cut/reduce y". Trump has already signaled that things are progressing well enough so the December tariffs shouldn't be needed.
In a perfect world China will sign phase 1 and tariffs decrease. However, if they balk or if they regress then it would be the height of idiocy to penalize them.
The ball is, and always has been, in their court.

Foolish talk.
The Chinese economy is being hurt so badly by the tariffs they are now far more eager to accept a deal they would have scoffed at just 4 years ago.
That's productive.

Oh Boy what???
Not even Trump says any more the Chinese are paying these tariffs. That was foolish to say and just a lie.

Productive for those that want to invest in China without forced partnerships or those that want to invest in Chinese companies or those that want to build plants in China or those that want to establish brand in China.
I doubt you will find any American company using Chinese inputs in their manufacturing processes that will call it "productive".

My company has been getting hit full on by the 25% tariffs. That said, my costs have dropped 18% since this all started as manufacturers cut pricing to sustain sales. A big part of their ability to do that has been the devaluation of the RMB by 8-10%
That devaluation hits the working class in China very hard. Throw in the inflation in food and the average Chinese citizen is taking a major hit. They are paying a big chunk of the cost of these tariffs. Make no mistake about that

Unfortunately, due to nutter envirowhacko's influence, the U.S. has laws and regs which make it possible to make certain things in China or elsewhere and import them into the U.S. However the same things cannot be made here without 3 years of fish testing for toxicity on the finished product.
This makes zero sense at all since it those commodities will be here anyway whether imported or made here.
