Please explain US Federal response required?
I like that we are helping, and would love to shift money we piss away elsewhere. I don't feel our Federal government is required to do alot.

Also have no representation in congress. Maybe grant them statehood if you want their tax money?

They are welcome to apply for statehood
I don't want or not want their tax money. Just want to understand responsibility to help. I think we should, but not exactly sure respond needed. I live in a state that gets less Federal money back then we put in. Is it not fair to ask?

You don't want to help them great. But then free them...pretty simply...US territory means you are responsible for all 3.5 million of them.

Responsible how? Did they get attacked and we not support with military?
In post you quoted I said we should help. Aka I want to help. I think we are helping.
Is there something to support we are responsible to rebuilding them?

They consistently vote against statehood, so when/how should we grant them something they don't want?

I guess you should still be drowning in shite water from Katrina then, since Louisiana is a top 3 welfare drain on the US economy, you ignorant freak

I am in New Jersey
Even with Sandy support my state is still gets pennies on the dollar for federal taxes paid.
That said my republican governor treat Democrat president respectfully to ensure maximum state aid

Actually they just recently did (CNN link was 1st to pop up) June 9, 2017 Puerto Rico referendum on Statehood Application.
Maybe ask Chucky and Nancy what the Dems think about it? Without dem support there's now not enough Repub's to go it alone. And who knows which way cancerous McCain will vote unless it is to declare war against PR. Collins only has the 2 letter word "no" in her vocabulary regarding all legislation, and Murkowski, or is it Merkel, has zero concerns with American interests only her own.

Not true. Puerto Ricans do not pay federal income tax. However, they do pay most other federal taxes.
The federal taxes paid by Puerto Rico residents include import/export taxes, federal commodity taxes, and social security taxes.Residents also pay federal payroll taxes, such as Social Security and Medicare.
Employers in Puerto Rico are subject to both Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax and the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA).

That referendum had about 23 per cent voter turn out, though...
