Eliminating SEC disclosures for energy companies.
This puts American energy companies on the same competitive footing as foreign energy companies. Under the previous regulations it meant that competitors knew your next step. They knew your plans and could plan accordingly and out maneuver US energy companies on business contracts.
This is a good move by congress and Trump.

Well, thank you very much. This is a big signing, a very important signing. And this is H.J. Resolution 41, disapproving the Securities and Exchange Commission's rule on disclosure of payments by resource extraction issuers. It's a big deal. And I want to thank Speaker Paul Ryan for being here. He's been tremendous. Jeb Hensarling very, very important and really worked hard. Representative Bill Huizenga and all of the friends -- Peter -- all of my friends are up here. And we really appreciate it.
This is one of many that we've signed, and we have many more left. And we're bringing back jobs big league, we're bringing them back at the plant level; we've bringing them back at the mine level. The energy jobs are coming back.

Pretty sad that that was even law in the first place

As a retired CPA and a current investor, I disagree this is a good thing. I'm in favor of disclosures, however they are mandated.

I'm pretty sure they are still required to comply with sarbox. The rule in question requires disclosures of payments made to foreign governments by us energy companies.

Many energy companies actually sponsored the original disclosure requirements to combat corrupt govt. Activists naturally jumped on board to push the disclosures on the oil companies not on the govts. Thus why international oil companies are trying to pull back.

Please explain how this helps create US jobs.

The disclosures were requiring US energy companies disclose all payments AND details of payments (contractual terms) with foreign govts. Meaning China can review those contracts to be more competitive thus locking out American companies in future bids. American companies working in Africa will employ more Americans than a china company in the same region.
They will also pay more taxes to fund the govt. that should make you happy.

The Securities Act of 1933?

quote:So like a few hundred jobs? Serious question. I take it that the US company would be under no obligation to actually do that.

Were energy companies the only ones required to do this?

Yes probably a few hundred USA families get to enjoy a job they otherwise wouldn't have. Is that a good or a bad thing? I can't tell which the left prefers anymore.
Oh that's right oil companies, their stockholders and their employees are allowed to not pay US taxes. Got me there.

In the past 6 years, Saban hasn't even needed to study film of LSU, so this is progress

Well, y'all got Canada now so Bama may need to prepare

As I said, the issue arised from activists expanding the intent to hurt oil companies rather than disclose payments.

yes it is a good thing that oil companies no longer have to disclose who they are bribing abroad....

Saban discovered Miles' game plan many years ago.
