Are you from Louisiana? Huey P Long was a populist that is always described using that term.

Huey P Long at least gave the state its infrastructure. What did we get from the non-populist conservatives like Jindal and Landry?

Populist politicians are crooks who rob you while giving you some things to make you happy.

Conservative politicians are crooks who rob you while telling you they'll give you some nice things if only you vote for them in the future and don't get too uppity about their wars.

The weird thing is that the Republican party was the conservative party before MAGA. But now that MAGA is here and slapfights break out between the 2 groups, the conservatives want to pretend that the old Republicans they voted for don't really represent the conservatism they supported for years.

The people who gave us Bush, Romney, and McCain are now telling us that we're wrong for supporting Trump and that we should support their candidate despite their long record of making just godawful choices.

It's like the guy with 5 public intoxes telling me no one can smell alcohol on your breath if you only drink vodka. Really? Because your history says otherwise.

You'd have a commie gov in a neighboring state, or a few states over, if they were allowed to govern as they choose.

We just need the fed to be much more limited, with state's rights, & the power back to the people.

Really? Because this is what Oxford & Webster, on my device, states.

quote:

a person, especially a politician, who strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.

I've yet to find "rational argument"

Thats because youre not even looking up the right word, genius

quote:

Most populist movements are led by Demogogues.

quote:

a political leader who seeks support by appealing to the desires and prejudices of ordinary people rather than by using rational argument

The topic of conversation is populism. For me anyway. I did miss that word, but not all populists are a Demogogues.

I know what you're getting at, but I think Trump has been very rational. Especially with what the left has put him thru. But if we have to deal with the progressives in this country irrationally, I'm ok with that.

Trump is a nationalist. Sure, a lot of his principles are currently popular among ordinary people, but that doesn't make him a populist. He's on video stating his exact same views since the early 80s when he was considered an outsider/anti-globalist.

Hell, even Bernie is labeled a populist, as his philosophy is popular among the progressive/socialist everymen. yet, Bernie & Trump are nothing alike. Bernie is a socialist. Trump is a nationalist. Their views are currently popular among certain demographics. Bernie would've been arrested for his views in the 1950s.

Populism is as meaningless & fleeting a term as reigning pop music artists/genres. It's only a snapshot of a moment in time. Much like I rail against and insult chart-topping K-pop stars & mumble rappers as "not real music", the minority will insult popular political stances of the majority.

Sure. They're both wrong, but for different reasons.
