I don't think Waltz will directly order the MN National Guard to impede ICE.
I do think he will attempt to create a situation that brings the NG into conflict with Federal Law Enforcement.
That is his greatest wish, to see a violent encounter between Federal and State law enforcement.

At this point, I hope not. Would love to see real unrest get quashed by strong Republican leadership. I think it would help us politically in the midterms.

The Guard has JAGs that will review any orders that might contravene federal law. The commanders should not put their troops in a position to receive an unlawful order.

I'd venture to bet most combat arms Minnesota national guard are good ole baws from suburbs and rural areas.

Even the urban guys are unlikely to give two craps about illegals. The problem is the officers that were indoctrinated in university. They also probably won't be using 11B, etc., during this. It'd be MP units which may be squishier than combat arms.

They'll get staged somewhere and look to be protecting somwthing without really impeding ICE's operations.

It'll be some transportation company.

Bet.

If waltz orders Mn National Guard to impede Federal officials, is that a legal order?
Wouldn't Mn National Guardsmen be in trouble to follow an illegal order?

Minnesota has its own Uniform Code of Military Justice—Chapter 192A of the Minnesota Statutes.
It applies to:

Minnesota National Guard members not on federal active duty

Personnel on state active duty or Title 32 status

Certain civilians accompanying the force in specific circumstances

When Guard members are federally activated (Title 10), they fall under the federal UCMJ, not Minnesota’s.

Thanks, but doesn't answer the question.
Regardless of under Minnesota code or US code, would an order to impede Federal officials be an illegal order under either code?
Imo, it would be under either code, but I'm just guessing.

Interesting question, pretty sure the TAG appointed by Walz will run as close as he can to skirting the law.

I wonder if any of theses NG members would resign before obeying deployment orders they don't like. They could tell the press they are doing a "Tim Walz".

Why aren't they arresting protesters for this?

Because there’s too many of them, so what they should do is arrest the mayor and the governor because they’re the ones promoting it
