100% it never sat right with me as a kid, seemed unamerican to pledge allegiance to anything. Doubt Jefferson would have gone for it.

Did any of said political views leak into the pledge?
If anything this highlights a different between the right and the left. Lord knows if Francis accidentally said the wrong version of whatever description the black activists deemed as racist (colored people vs people of color) their grave would have already been dug up.
