Watching America's mayor last night....I would say it was a MASSIVE SCREW UP.

Laura had to work hard to maneuver him to discuss why he was actually involved with the Ukraine in the first place. He's fortunate she did.
Apparently, during the Manafort investigation it became evident to the Trump defense that Yuriy Lutsenko, the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, might be extorted into producing false information against the Trump Administration a la the Steele Dossier. Those concerns would seem to be validated by a threatening letter sent to Lutsenko by Democrat Senators. Assessing that risk was supposedly the rationale for Giuliani's involvement.
He is working against a Dem narrative that his sole Ukrainian motivation was to attack Joe Biden. It wasn't. The Dem spin maybe a false narrative, but Rudy is so scattered that he seems to validate their accusations.

This is mistake by Pelosi, for sure. She held the line fairly strongly against the squad and the other impeachment critters for years. Recall they wanted to start impeachment proceedings on January 20, 2017.
Giving in, now, will definitely move the needle against them and result in a net loss. Now, they're doing this, strategically, because they think they can slow down Trump's agenda by fixing him with these unending proceedings before Congress. Thus far, this has worked for them to a degree.

Pelosi and the establishment Dems are only doing it for one reason: the young radical Dems are backed by the press, they aren’t. The press will turn on them. Their are two coups happening simultaneously: the one to unseat a President without cause, and the one within the Democratic Party

The left needs to remember that when Biden got the prior prosecutor fired even if they want to argue it wasn't for his son they are still confronted with the problem that it is extremely unlikely the Obama administration got somebody fired and didn't make sure the people behind him were friendly to the Obama administration
