Please try to understand this. I can't think of hardly a person here who is against immigration. What is wrong is illegal immigration, or as the left has so carefully spun it, undocumented citizenship. My grandmother was an immigrant who came here and did everything by the book.
There are some cases with extenuating circumstances. But none that involve 300 people stuffed into 2 trucks trying to cross the border illegally.

I think most conservatives understand this could be the case in some scenarios. But, it doesn't justify open borders. And, it doesn't justify an immigration policy that's unenforceable.
That's the great thing about an enforceable immigration policy. Congress can modify the immigration policy based on the country's needs at any given time.

In a free market you exchange goods, services, and PEOPLE. If you restrict or hinder any of those components, you no longer have a free market and you're no longer operating efficiently
Are there ANY legal restrictions on "goods" and "services" that can be offered? Must those "goods" and "services" be documented? Say, for tax purposes or for legal tracking. Are the foods inspected? Are there laws about "services" and restrictions (licenses, prostitution, etc)?
So, the "people" must have ZERO documentation....?
silliness

This should tell you everything you need to know about our immigration system: it sucks.

Did you enter legally?

That doesn't come anywhere close to telling us everything we need to know about it. Are you serious?

Oh I’m just getting started.
Blame their parents for having unprotected sex and bringing them into their world of misery, despair, and poverty. If you can’t take care of them don’t have them.
Words I’ve lived by in deciding to only have 2 kids.
Not my fault their parents didn’t practice the same.
Last I checked the US has 330 million people. How many more do we need?
The inn is full for the huddled poor masses that need bread, housing, healthcare, and education for their offspring that they apparently have an insatiable appetite to produce in mass quantities.

Depends on the level of gov't intrusion you are willing to have in your personal life. I'd prefer to have as little as possible. Understand of course, that any gov't hurdle increases costs of goods, decrease efficiency, and ultimately curtails your freedom.
I'd venture to guess that the majority of the folks in here clamoring for more immigration hurdles are the same trumpeting Trump cutting federal regulations on business.

Look at all of those human beings
meh.....there are billions of people in the world that I'll never meet.
There will be about 56 million people in the world that will die this year....I won't know (or grieve for) most of them.
That is a picture of a truckload of some of them.
LEGAL immigrants are welcomed. Otherwise? Just a tiny number of those I won't spend a day grieving about.
I'm not callous...I am realistic.

The frick it does.
Are there CURRENTLY any legal restrictions on the things I noted (that you mentioned)
I am NOT being hypothetical.....there are REAL illegal aliens...so, are there REAL restrictions on "goods" and "services" including DOCUMENTATION?

Yes. But that’s irrelevant to the point I was making.
The point was you can’t tell what someone will amount to just by looking at them as the OP is attempting to do.

Well, I have a better opinion of you because you followed the law. So, I am free to judge the others for not.

The current immigration policies are a JOKE. How else do you explain people packed into a truck risking their lives to get here? Why is that? Because we've made it so fricking hard to get here legally. Jesus Christ.
You are willing to accept a higher degree of gov't regulation over an important aspect of the economy than I am. I'd assume let the market decide the labor flow. If the market doesn't need the uneducated, unwashed masses, then they won't stay long in this country because there will be no jobs for them. As per usual, people are trying to use the gov't to control a "problem" and end up creating additional, and bigger, problems.
But, yall continue with your police state.

In the context of what I was limiting the discussion to, it is.
I’m not saying let these guys stay after they broke the law. Absolutely not. Respect the rule of law.
But people like the OP and the yuckle frick directly below me that think they can tell you what someone will amount to based off a picture are clowns.

I don't see immigration as black/white like many people here, but come one people. You can't look at that picture and think that's ok.
You can't have that shite. You have to draw the line somewhere. You say the market would drive them out? No it wouldn't because there are plenty of government programs to sustain them even without jobs.

So you have to assume these people don't have skills to find employment in their own country (or wont), yet we have jobs for them to do here?

It would be stronger if 70% of the million immigrants we take a year legally weren't allowed to be here simply because their cousin won a diversity visa from a shithole country.
quote:
Our workforce is aging. Americans are not having children at a rate that sustains growth for the workforce. We need immigration. You don't like the brown people coming over? Fine. I'd suggest having 10 kids.
So let's take in tens of millions immigrants from the 25 poorest countries in the world every year from now on. In about 30 years our population will pass China's. Seems like a brilliant plan.
