I believe this was the passage Robertson was quoting. If he was going from memory he did a pretty good job.

quote:

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God."
1st Corinthians 6:9-11

I bet it's the only Bible quote he knows by heart.

Why do you say that? I've never seen his TV show but from what I've heard of him he is a lay preacher and a committed Christian.

it comes from letters from Paul who also writes In 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 “As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church” (vv. 33-35).

I doubt he tells Miss Kay to keep silent.

If I was a bettin' man, I'd go with Miss Kay doesn't have any leadership role in their congregation.

Well, probably not.

I know a lot of those people. I doubt if he has to tell her to keep silent. My experience is that the women in those churches are just as strong in their beliefs as are the men. Perhaps more so.

Paul also wrote against divorce

10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. 12 To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13 And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him.

He also wrote against men having long hair and women being forbidden to cut or shave their hair.

Now we know the modern day Christian picks and chooses from the Old Testament using the canard of "The New Covenant" but here we have Paul speaking within The New Covenant yet the Robertsons ignore what Paul says re women not cutting their hair and men cutting.

It's hypocritical. No way around it. Old Phil decides which of Paul's words he'll follow and condemns others for doing that which he does.

I don't know the man, nor do I know much of him since I've never seen his show, and never would watch it. But I'm sure what you said in your post is true.

Somewhere out there is a book by a guy who tried for one year to follow every single commandment, precept, proverb, advice, admonition, etc in the Bible (or was it the Old Testament?) Anyway, the results were hilarious. I wish I could remember the name of it.

Just because you have desires doesn't mean you have to act on them

People have all kinds of desires and weaknesses. One person it might be homosexuality, another person it might be pornography, another person it might be pedophilia, another person it might be drugs.

When I lived in Las Vegas I was pretty into gambling on sporting events. It was a desire that I had to satisfy every week. But I knew that just because I had the desire, didn't mean I needed to act on it.

You see this right here is what pisses people off. You're comparing gay people to pedophiles, drug addicts , and chronic gamblers. And then you have the audacity to whine on this board about the attitudes of gays toward self righteous Christians. frick you.

I think the church I grew up in was fairly liberal. Nobody was taught to give a damn whether someone else was or wasn't gay, lesbian, or whatever...and I'm not gay. I was just always taught that it was people's personal business what they do with their personal business.

I would tell him, as we ALL should tell him, that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with his homosexuality, and that people like Phil Robertson are insecure, self-loathing, hate-filled morons.

Why are you so anti-science? There are tons of scientifically proven things wrong with homosexual acts.

Disease rates? Higher.
Infection rates? Higher.
Depression rates? Higher.

The list goes on. Not to mention the act goes against how we evolved over the year. Its like you don't notice how part "A" goes into slot "B" and "B" naturally lubricates to allow no friction.

When you think about....maybe that's the only one he needs to remember. IMHO, we all should avoid all of those aforementioned lifestyles. We should be kind and generous, don't be a gossip, don't be a skirt chaser, help the poor, take care of your family, respect your parents and the elderly, and you'll be okay. One more thing....we all should congregate [I do] with others on Sunday and give a big to the "Big Three" upstairs. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, will stand before Him [alone - with no legal counsel] someday.

Have a great day!
