Most Americans, including a majority of Republicans and right-leaning independents, agree that undocumented immigrants should be allowed to legally remain in the United States, as long as they can meet certain criteria, a new Pew Research Center poll released Monday reveals.
According to the poll of 4,175 people, conducted from July 22-Aug. 4 and carrying a margin of error of 1.9 percentage points, 72% of Americans favor allowing immigrants to stay.
The numbers were down slightly from a similar study in March 2017, when 77% of Americans were in favor.

The current numbers show 27% of the respondents oppose finding a way to allow undocumented immigrants to achieve legal status, and marked changing views with Republicans:
54% of Republicans or GOP-leaning independents say they support granting legal status.
45% were against the idea.
38% were against a pathway to legal status in the 2017 study.

However, the survey showed that 42% of the Republicans and independents would favor an initiative that leads to deporting every undocumented immigrant out of the United States.
Among Democrats and left-leaning independents, 87% favor allowing immigrants to remain in the United States legally.

Yes but they don't ask the important follow-up question, can more immigrants come right behind them?
I think most people would allow immigrants to stay if we had a secure border and more couldn't just come across.
Otherwise Pew is saying most people believe in open borders, which we know is false.
Pew being misleading

It's very telling that Democrats wouldnt trade amnesty for a border wall. It seems like the most logical compromise between the two sides
But when you endgame is to flood the country with millions of future Democrats then that plan isn't very attractive
Progs are a sick bunch

This is important and so is this quote:
Funny how important aspects of articles get "brushed over".
Sounds about how the whole global warming polls were done.

“Legal status” ok with me. So long as they stand up to be counted by a certain date, are forever denied welfare benefits (state or federal), we eliminate anchor baby status by statute now and forevermore (proactively only, retroactively we’re stuck with our new citizens born to illegals), criminal penalties to employers and landlords of illegals, and these recognized legal residents get kicked out for ANY crime, and never, ever under any circumstances whatsoever become citizens.
These people cheated to come here, and in the process drove down wages and put us at each other’s throats. They don’t deserve to be citizens under any circumstances. Amnesty of any kind (even after a waiting period and a fine the these freeloaders will never pay) would only delay the disastrous effects of the Democrats insane power grab by 10’ yrs, and ruin us.

Pew is perhaps the least trustworthy 'research center" in existence.
They are the group who invented targeted polling to achieve the desired result.
Anything from them is literally fake news.

Yeah, leave and then apply legally.

I would like to see how they worded the questions. Makes a huge difference.

This kind of fakery just entrenches Trump further for 2020. Everyone knows this is Bs.

My criteria would be leaving and applying for citizenship. Meet that criteria and then you can stay.
