With all the Trump news, I can't believe y'all are missing the biggest news of the day!

CBSNews

quote:

After more than a century behind bars, the beasts on boxes of animal crackers are roaming free. Mondelez International, the parent company of Nabisco, has redesigned the packaging of its Barnum's Animals crackers after relenting to pressure from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. PETA, which has been protesting the use of animals in circuses for more than 30 years, wrote a letter to Mondelez in the spring of 2016 calling for a redesign. "Given the egregious cruelty inherent in circuses that use animals and the public's swelling opposition to the exploitation of animals used for entertainment, we urge Nabisco to update its packaging in order to show animals who are free to roam in their natural habitats," PETA said in its letter.

That's great and all until a gorilla cracker rips off some poor kid's face.

Crazy bastards are all about re-introducing grizzly bears and wolves into the lower 48. Grizzly bears are bad enough.....but you’ll see grizzly bears doing tricks at the circus for treats. You’ll see a lion doing the same thing. You ain’t never gonna see a full blooded wolf doing that shite! There’s a reason wolves and grizzly bears were nearly exterminated in the lower 48......it’s because man and these predators CANT co-exist in tight quarters. Our ancestors may not have had a lot of education. They may have worshipped idiotic gods, enslaved one another and fought wars fo no good reason....but universally they were bright enough to know that you don’t want wolves prowling about the place.....they nearly wiped out wolves because it was them or the wolf and we had the means to win.

There are about 150 wolves in New Mexico. They are restricted to about as isolated area as there is in the lower 48. 12 have had to be exterminated in the last 3 years for killing livestock. A little better than 10% in as sparsely populated area as there is in the lower 48......12 who were completely unafraid of man and not willing to avoid man and thus had to be destroyed.....and I’m stupid because I think it’s a bad idea to reintroduce these animals on a larger scale?

Do you live in an area where there are wolves or where they may be introduced? What about indigenous people not subject to the laws of the US? Want Comanches running about acting like they did in 1850? This is as misguided and racist as people being opposed to trophy hunters paying poor nations to kill exotic animals. Man is at the mercy of nature....our only hope is to use what we have...intelligence...to hold pat. You think wolves want to live near you? Only because you’d be an easy meal........not because you are part of the natural order of things.

I give it a year before PITA complains that the crackers resemble animals and are influencing children to eat animals. Give it time, soon those will be crackers shaped like veggies.

You are completely wrong. The reason they were killed off is because they believed killing apex predators was the best policy to conserving game animals. It was found to be a total failure. Overpopulation wiped out plant life and led to starvation and disease.

Who would have thunk it, nature knows how to balance itself. Apex predators are needed, that's why they are being reintroduced.
