"We" is Congress and the Executive - and they've done nothing because they have secret bunkers, food stocks, and armed protection waiting for them.

We have military response crisis action plans that deal with the power outage...
It only takes 6 months to completely restore in the plan...
That's only 175 days without water, we're good, right?

IMO, it's pure, juvenile irresponsibility; not wanting to face and shoulder a very troubling issue. Were it not for Sean Hannity incessantly repeating/ranting re the false and criminally corrupt Muh Russia/"insurance policy" scandal...even that would have been swept under the rug.

Anything that is bad PR...they shun it like the plague. And while it's likely true that they do have survival bunkers, et., for emergency Command and Control, the very idea that the people who did survive in those bunker will just walk back into what will be a nightmare scenario of stench and ruin, and be happy...is ludicrous.

Some high profile individual needs to pick up the banner and run with it. Trump will heed the call of any legitimate threat. He's not a politician. Yet.

No doubt this setting has the best chance for success, but just to illustrate the point of how consumer driven we are and it being so ingrained that we don’t even think about it: Do they have any skill in reclaiming seeds? Or do they always just go to the store and buy more?

That's a good example. My parents would have a lot of knowledge of growing, but from many many years back.

There's potentially a shite ton of knowledge needed to adequately make the transition. Agriculture, hunting (not just pew pew but including cleaning/dressing taken game), food prep and safety, sanitation, electronics (assuming basic stuff still works), and a million other things that could pop up along the way. And that's not even getting into security tactics and the sociopolitical aspects of things.

Don’t forget the biggest one of all: preservation.

Hope you have massive amounts of salt handy.
