Our U.S. Government Employees Have Been Celebrating their “Shutdown-Cation”

I’ve worked for a government consulting firm in a sector that spans the State and War departments for several years now. I am a private employee of the firm, but we have several U.S. government civilians that share our projects and office space.
I guess we have become so used to shutdowns (or the threats of shutdowns) over the last several years that all of our USG employees have been basically celebrating their “Shutdown-cation” as they’ve been calling it and are gleeful today. Some are excepted due to their specific projects, but most are not.
It’s strange that our government lays them off and eventually agrees to give them back pay. If our company was forced to shutdown for several weeks, I don’t know if we could expect to get paid when we didn’t work.
Many here support the shutdown for partisan reasons but I think it represents what’s wrong the the Republican Party just as much as the Democratic Party.
The stores in DC will be packed tomorrow I’m sure.

Well, while they are celebrating their "shutdown-cation", also what a stupid name, Pubs are going to be firing a bunch of them and making it permanent.

I'm hoping for some major program and employee cuts during this shutdown.

When I worked for the FAA, I never celebrated a shutdown but hated seeing one happen.

Aside from someone on this board actually being employed, this was OPs tell that he’s full of shite. Shutdowns are pretty rare and there have only been 3 of any significant time. Shutdowns are bad for everyone. Not receiving a paycheck when you expect it sucks. Being flippant about it because they’ll receive their pay anyway is similar ignoring theft because insurance will cover it. If you just hate federal employees, fair but it’s not a vacation for all of them. I know a few people who weren’t able to close on houses the last shutdown and they ended up losing the house. First world problem but huge pain in the arse for them and they were working the whole time.

The same people have voted for the same bill, verbatim, 13 times in the past year (only adjusted for inflation, its online, read it!).
So no, this one is not on R's (even though I have plenty of disain for them also), this is Carlos Schumer and Joaquin Jeffries' shutdown, period.

There may be some here who are upset, but I haven’t seen it.
Besides the majority of the USG employee base here are not the kind trying to close on their starter home. And they aren’t going to be too upset at missing a few paychecks, either…especially when they know it will all be paid back.
