You need to get together with Cassidy and Kennedy and have a meeting with Trump and tell him the following:

1) BR traffic and the 10/12/bridge issues present a national security issue

2) because you have made it clear that economic security = national security

3) at least 4 times per week, there are extended delays on a critical East-West artery because of accidents in the Bridge or on I10 in BR

4) the delays result in tens of millions of dollars in lost income and productivity, due to the thousands of vehicles and drivers sitting idle - loads delayed, people not in their offices, sales calls missed, etc

5) it also creates significant environmental issues - so much ozone and greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere because if vehicles idling in traffic for hours (if these vehicles are moving, they are more efficient and less if an impact)

6) these problems would be greatly lessened by a loop with two more bridges over the Mississippi River

7) because of a complete lack of political spine by local officials, the federal government must "take" the right of way for the roadway or it will never get done

8) And also bypass environmental impact issues by declaring it a matter of national security

You don't need Trump to fix this problem. You need the legislature to get off its arse, and the little communities to get behind the economic development it will bring.

You listed two point sevens. You lost all credibility in my eyes.

Wasn't the Interstate system supposed to be a matter of national transit, when it came about? Not supposed to be the primary intercity route to get around Baton Rouge, but a way to ship freight efficiently cross country?
It should be fairly open.

These things are probably a bigger problem than the cost. It is damn near impossible to get approval to build roads through swamps/wetlands anymore. Should be a bit easier under Trump but still requires wasting millions on “environmental impact” studies. Hwy 1 to Fourchon only got approved because it was a national security thing with the LOOP

And now if you want to build a road through a black neighborhood it is racist and any northern loop inevitably affects north BR black neighborhoods.

Bottom line:

Local politics shouldn’t undermine the regional and national need for alternative routes through congested cities. Another crossing and an alternative route is needed to facilitate the movement of freight and commerce in that region. The current state of the highway network leaves the region especially vulnerable to infrastructure failure and gridlock, which is particularly troublesome during hurricane season.

A lot of cities developed along the freeways. It’s not an uncommon issue.

I think some kind of turnpike may be needed in Louisiana with fewer exits than I-10 and I-12 features. Something that can handle the freight traffic but discourage commuters. Maybe they can accomplish that via separate express lanes in the same right of way or as an alternative route entirely.

They are widening I-10 to 8 lanes in Baton Rouge, which will be a huge help. It won’t solve everything though. I don’t think there is enough space to widen it again when the need arises in 20 years.

Alternative routes are needed somehow.

I-10 was never meant to go through Baton Rouge, but the plans were changed at the last minute resulting in a willy-nilly design.

EBR is about to pass a $960 million infrastructure plan to enhance local and state roads within its boundaries.

At some point the state and Feds need to cough up funding for projects with broader scope than just the city. An alternate bridge crossing is a good example.

I can tell you that he already had that meeting. In the mean time, Garret has secured funding for the Comite Diversion and to widen I-10 between college and the new bridge twice! (The first time, JBE found a way to divert the money to widen I-10 near Lafayette between I-49 and the end of the Basin Bridge).

During the Landrieu/Cassidy race, when pointing out the benefits to the state with a two term, pro oil and gas senator that is cozy with the oil and gas industry v. a fricking doctor, I was told repeatedly that did not matter!

JBE is trying to divert it again to build a freeway link to the new MSY terminal.
