It was because that’s how frozen accounts due to sanctions work. All assets that are frozen due to US sanctions (regardless of country) go into an interest bearing account.
OFAC even has an easy to follow FAQ for how blocking (freezing) and rejecting prohibited transactions works

Ok? The supposed $150B is even more straightforward than the pallets of cash. I posted several links if you care to read them - the politifact one even addresses this issue. They also claim that $150B is well above most reported numbers (which most estimates are well below $100B).

Because it is highly difficult to send wires to Iran from a US institution given the multitude of sanctions that still existed against Iran even after the very specific ones that were lifted as part of the Iran Deal.
I believe the WAPO article I posted also addresses this.

The 150 you keep referencing wasn’t in US government accounts like the 1.5. Apples and Oranges.

I wonder how much of the money dumped into Solendra and the Canadian Web firm that made the failed Healthcare.gov web site got funneled into a Numbered Swiss Bank Account.

Doesn’t really exist anymore. More likely (if we were to believe this conspiracy) is they would set up multiple shell corporations registered across offshore tax havens.
