Hopefully they are safe as reported
Interestingly other than a plane being down every other detail Iran reported was false - type of plane, pilots captured etc.
Even with complete air control flying over enemy is still dangerous.

I would think the USAF would know immediately if one of their planes have gone down. Is that correct?

Maybe but not necessarily true. Depends on what it was Shot down by, where it was hit, and how far away from the actual AD battery it was hit.
