They will see a brave martyr dying for Allah. If folks were arguing for a murderer in a liquor store robbery gone bad to be televised. I may not agree with it but I could possibly see a deterrent angle for young criminals. A religious zealot who's greatest aspiration is to die for Allah...not seeing it at all.

At the Turkish border crossings there used to be tale pointed poles with human heads impaled and stacked one upon the other. I wondered why the Turks did it.

Being impaled on pike and made to suffer for days, even for a zealot, is a high price to pay. We are giving Hasan a quick death. Televising it is pointless to all reason except providing spectacle to those that enjoy watching such things.

There is no deterrent value for this.

If anything there's a negative deterrent value.

In our system-all condemned get a dignified death. Serial killers-child killers-terrorists-everybody. It is actually one of our better characteristics.

That doesn't mean I don't hope he isn't stabbed to death in the shower-it just means that when The State executes someone-there should be decorum. It's about respecting ourselves-not giving this piece of shite any respect.

We are debating the deterrent factor. You arent countering.

A pro argument I just heard was interesting . At least as far as execution is that it deters Jihadist from taking hostages in exchange for imprisoned terrorists Thats been a problem for the Israelis. They have pretty much abolished the death penalty there except for fatal terrorist attacks. They passed that law this year. Now other than providing would be hostage takers with proof of death Im still not seeing the deterrent factor.

Such a nonsense criticism. "Don't do anything the people who want to kill you don't like."

I don't agree with you and that's because the terrorist will look at him as getting his 72 virgins even if it wasn't shown but seeing him actually get killed will stick in some of their minds of what the end result looks like.

Execution, for hundreds of years, was always done in public. No one should be against it being streamed live. If you don't want to watch it then don't.
