On local news here in Atlanta. Top story.

Georgia already has two US Senate elections this November, a rare occurrence.

This will be a battle.

Supporters of both sides have already put out statements condemning the other and claiming the other is selfish.

Criticism of Kemp has come from several Georgia Republican state reps this morning with some planning to move the primary and close it. Kemp has responded by basically saying eat me and that he will veto any such legislation. GA republicans say they may have the votes to override a veto.

This will get ugly.

I see a Georgia version of Rispone/Abraham.

Good for him. The fact that Collins is buddying up with Ralston is enough to convince me to vote Loeffler. Ralston is a complete sleezebag.

Collins will win. Proven conservative
Loeffler is saving face right now because of the competition. She’ll be a Murkowski, Collins, McSally type.

As a Georgian I’m casting my vote for Collins.

I live in Doug Collins district, which happens to be one of the more conservative R districts in the country. You can bet your arse I am voting for Doug Collins.

Kemp should have put Collins in that seat as he was going to get elected to it anyway. This shite with Loeffler was short sighted on the part of Kemp.

Primary wouldn't be closed (all primaries in GA are open).

Seems like a good guy, but I'm not a fan of his camp/hannity/gaetz trying to strong arm the governor. Kemp has done an awesome job so far, and it was his decision to make. The fact that Collins is so close to Ralston is a disappointment though.

The problems with Loeffler are that she is an unknown and a first time ever candidate.

First time candidates have a history of failing in special elections to finish out a term. You typically want a seasoned, known candidate. That’s Collins. That’s what republicans were telling Kemp. Moreover, Loeffler has no record to run on. She has nothing to stand on. Collins has a record. Good or bad, and in GA it’s mostly good, he has a lot he can stand on. That’s another reason why republicans were pushing him to Kemp.

Moreover Collins made it clear early on that he felt he had paid his dues and that he was going to run for the seat.

Now Kemp decided he was going to make his own call. He ignored republicans and Collins and chose Loeffler because she is a known republican fundraiser and supporter and he feels she can get votes from democrat leaning and independent suburban women. That’s a big gamble. Yes, she’s a woman. But she has no record or name recognition to sell.

Now, I’m pleased with her brief introduction so far. She is committing herself to be a strong supporter of Trump and a pro business get stuff done republican. The die has been cast. Kemp chose her. She is showing herself to be reliable. So I wish Collins wouldn’t run now and create this fight. I understand other people saying Kemp helped create this fight.

I have to say I worry about how she will be as a campaigner. Aside from being a first time candidate, she is a very bad speaker. Stiff, wooden, boring. Very little personality. I worry about her in a fight against the democrat candidate.

This, all day long. She got the position because her husband is loaded, period. She might be great, she might be another Susan Collins. There's just no way to know.

Eric Erickson is telling me that I cannot vote for Collins.

It’s pushing me to vote for Collins.

Nothing like internecine warfare to strengthen the GOP position in DC.

Trump doesnt get to dictate who a Governor fills a vacant Senate with.

This is a huge problem! Props to Kemp saying GFY!

Suburban female GOP voters will decide this race.

Will they fire one of their own, with a conservative voting record (albeit a short one)?

Collins has my vote. Loeffler is an unknown.

Right now she's working overtime to convince Georgians she's astroturf MAGA.

It’s a tough, legitimate question and one that makes this Georgia senate election one of the more interesting stories to follow this year.

To the other poster, the people will ultimately decide...not Trump nor Kemp.

Although Trump will have a strong influence on the Nov election because a lot of republicans will be voting for him. He made his preference for Collins known prior to the appointment which of course was his right to do. And Kemp made his own decision which of course is also his right.

Now the voters ultimately decide. It will be interesting to see what Trump says now. He may do a rally with both. I expect him to support whoever the voters choose.

The legislation pending is to replace the jungle primary for a special election and replace it with the open (party-based) primary for a regular election (Georgia doesn’t have party registration).

Kemp has promised to veto that and from what I've seen, the votes to override that is not there.
