I’ve not been paying attention to the news today, but George Orwell is apparently writing the freaking google algorithms. There’s no Ministry of Truth, but Google wants to be the arbiter of the “source of Truth.” That shite is creepy.

I got in car and OKeefe was being interviewed on Hannity and the docs say it.

Apparently Ted Cruz has addressed this in the Senate. Google may be bout to lose some platform immunity.

I will actually watch Hannity tonite, but in the meantime- anyone got a link to this Lion Ted on Googwell testimony?

EDIT: obligatory Hannity is aggravating AF

There's no doubt

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

- George Orwell, 1984

The world we are heading into is equal mixes of the Terminator, Mad Max and 1984 all rolled into one. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

This is true.

People who say or believe we're living in orwellian times are lazy minded. They didn't read either book (1984 or a brave new world) and are simply repeating what others are saying.

We're well past the orwellian vision of the future. With north korea being the only exception and the closest thing that ever came to orwell's future.

In 1984, orwell's fear was that all books would be burned. In a brave new world, huxley's fear was that no one would care if they were burned or not.

In 1984, the population is controlled by limiting information. In a brave new world, the population is controlled by the unceasing, constant bombardment of information.

In 1984, the population is oppressed through poverty, fear and intimidation. In a brave new world, the population is oppressed through drugs and the yielding to baser instincts such as promiscuous sex. In a brave new world the "id" is fed.

We both probably know which vision we're currently living in.

No it's not. Not even close.

There are almost 8 billion people on this planet and with the exception of some of the peace loving mooslems and caveman countries in africa, this world is largely at peace. In fact, in human history has this globe enjoyed such civility as we're currently experiencing now?

And speaking of civility. The United states is no more politically divided now than it's ever been. The problem is people are afflicted with recency bias. If you have boomer parents or grandparents for instance, ask them what the 60's and 70's were like. Today's political climate isn't jackshit compared to that.

And as divided as this country may be, we still live in a polite society and in our day to day lives, we're civil and largely kind to each other. Unlike a lot of other countries, we know not to discuss politics or religion in mixed company and on the occasion it does happen, fingers are wagged from both sides at the a-hole who started it.

The fricking world isn't falling to pieces, in fact as each year and decade passes, it becomes a better place to live and that includes the united states.

The times we currently live in are largely peaceful and prosperous. People need to lay off the internet a little, turn off the talk radio and get back to work.

I don't know what the frick stupid point you're trying to make with that but i have read both books. The whole "forest for the trees" axiom doesn't apply to this.

This country is so far from Orwellian, that for anyone to suggest we're even close to it, is to admit they've probably never read either 1984 or "a brave new world". Especially a brave new world.

There is but don't watch it.

If you've never read the book and you would like some idea of what it must be like in north korea. Read 1984. It's a true visionary masterpiece.

The unstupid point he’s trying to make stop focusing on the fricking trees.

We shouldn’t quibble about whether it’s Huxley or Orwell - but instead recognize that those are freaking cautionary tales and fables with the same damn message.

If we do not do something to eliminate this unholy union btwn Big Tech and Government- we are on a road towards tyranny.

How bout we try to be smart enough to understand the literary device of metaphor and allegory, and see the goddamn forrest we’re fixing to get lost in.

No let's "quibble" about it.

They're completely different books with two completely different visions for the future. They're not the same, not even close.

One vision has been all but completely defeated and we're currently living through aspects of the other. Two totally different visions with two totally different means of getting there.

It's a really stupid point he's making and you're dismissal of it only endorses that stupidity and probably reveals your own. What he said is something someone says when they really don't have anything else to say. There's no "forest for the trees" bullshite with this.

There's nothing remotely orwellian about the world we live in right now and that's the discussion YOU started.

In fact, gooble doesn't want to be the "arbiter of the source of truth", that's not possible. If gooble wants anything at all, it's something else entirely.

If you buy huxley's vision (and i seriously doubt you read the book) then what gooble wants is to assault you with so much information, that you don't know what's true or what isn't (sound familiar?). Once that happens, you'll seek out only the information that reinforces what you want to believe is true and that's something you probably already do.

Don't know you, fella. But you seem like a smart, well-spoken guy, with his head in his arse on this issue.

If you don't see us at the precipice of NewSpeak and Truth dictated by The Party, as written about in 1984, then yea, you are just not paying attention. All of you observations on prosperity and civility are meaningless in this struggle.

Not yet, but it is ok to make sure that some undesirable babies aren’t born. Cuz choice. And feels. That’s what “freedom” and “fairness” mean to these assholes.

It is only a matter of time.
