O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains He shall break
For the slave is our brother
And in His Name
All oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy
In grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy Name

Christ is the Lord
O praise His Name forever
His power and glory
Evermore proclaim
His power and glory
Evermore proclaim

Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine
O night divine

No other religion has a God sacrificing himself to his people…usually it’s the other way around. God bless everyone reading this and those that aren’t.

What charlatan would announce his coming being born in the filth and disgrace of a barn amongst livestock and shepherds? Who would believe that a king would be born of such disgrace and pitiful poverty?

If I was to fabricate a story of a savior, I would skip the poverty and disgrace to make it more palatable, yet we are here on Christmas Eve.

Religion is man’s search for God.
Christianity is God’s search for man.

So this is open to interpretation.

How do you interpret this?

Hands down my favorite Christmas hymn. Mannheim Steamroller has an instrumental rendition that Rush frequently played for bumper music on his radio broadcast during the Christmas season.......Merry Christmas PT faithful.

They sang a beautiful version of that song tonight at our Christmas Eve service. I agree, it was soul stirring.

Oh holy night, the stars are brightly shinin'
It is the night of our dear Savior's b-b-b-birth
O holy night, the- somethin', somethin' distant
It is the night with the Christmas trees and pie
Jesus was born and so I get presents
Thank you, Jesus for being born (whooo-oh-oh-oh-oh)
Fall (fall)
On your knees (on your knees)
And hear (can't you hear)
The angel's, somethin' (voices)
O night (o night)
Divine (divine)
The night when I get presents (oh-oh-oh)
O night (o night)
Beefcake
O night (ooh)
O night divine (ooh)

The promise of Christmas is the promise to complete the incomplete, to bring order to the chaos, and to mend the broken. Our brokenness is why He came. Our broken nation needs Him more than ever.

Merry Christmas to the MAGA’s, the never-Trumpers, the libs, the cons, the neo-cons, the RINOs, the patriots, to Trump, to Biden, their families, to literally everyone who I pray may realize His light transcends our petty politics.

Thank you for posting the lyrics and sharing this great song.

This line was the theme for our four Advent sermons this year.
quote:

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices

It’s a very personal song for me. I’m almost 70 now but I was 22 when I became a Christian in late August of 1975.

The Faith was quite new, overwhelming, and almost magical to me and I was radically transformed by Christ’s love. As Christmas rolled around, I happened to catch Glenn Campbell on The 700 Club (a show that I’d never watched except to make fun of it). He sang O Holy Night
a cappella. A song I had never paid attention to prior.

It was, and remains, one of the most moving experiences I’ve ever had, musically, emotionally, and spiritually. It opened my heart and mind to the reality, implications, and impact of The Incarnation. Particularly this line
Long lay the world
in sin and error pining
Till He appeared
and the soul felt its worth

So much had that song affected me that when another version of it came on the background Christmas music system at the mall department store where I worked I teared up at that line surrounded by customers, coworkers, and the store’s beautiful Christmas displays and lights. I’m affected similarly each time I hear it now 47 years later.

Thanks be to God that in Jesus’s Incarnation he showed mercy to a wretched sinner like me.
quote:

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

If only they would listen to Him. Instead they build horrific weapons of mass destruction. Capable of destroying life as we know it.

I choose God.

I’m as proud as they come, unfortunately. I break down every year when I hear this song.

Absolute favorite. And nothing quite like hearing at a midnight mass with a full choirs
and the the organ blaring.

A great rendition

Christianity is solely responsible for the downfall of the conservative movement as well as the demise of this country because of bullshite like this.

frick wishing people who want you dead and are killing any respectable future for your children a Merry Christmas. I wish they'd all suck a stick of dynamite.

You probably intentionally miss the point of Christianity.

What if I told you your life here on this planet was merely an almost insignificant blip in your life as a whole. All of the sudden, the seemingly insufferable challenges of this life seem inconsequential. One day you and I will end. I don’t fear that day.
