Your complete ignorance of anything past 1965 is of a detriment to yourself. Being ignorant of the present is as bad as being ignorant of the past. But, you hold on to that ignorance as a badge of honor.
You should watch the Big Lebowski. It's pretty funny. You'll then realize how absurd and idiotic comparing the 2. Sorry gramps, time has passed you by.

Defense, steel and other industrials. You do realize the purpose of tariffs is to reduce competition, correct?

LIke, NO cheap, vapid entertainment? You must be a hit at parties, and have lots of friends.

You really have a disdain towards women, don't you?
So, you're single, don't really give a shite about your grandkids. You dont' live near family, you are unemployed. You are angry that Trump's long term plans dont' jive with your short term retirement goals. You are on the internet too much. Angry a lot.
Are you Christian? Sounds like you need God. I'm not being an a-hole. Really, i think church may give you some perspective.

Let me know if that timeline summary helped this incredibly erudite conversation.

We are winning vs china in almost every way possible, and redefining our economy to work for primarily large corporations will put is more similar to china than opposed.
You and I have reached this impasse before. I’ll respond as I did then. China is trying to beat us by gaining power over us. As they reach that point they will probably not attack militarily, but they will feint and gain strategic ground, always keeping us in a situation in which we cannot retaliate because we have more to lose than them. This is the Chinese way. It is Xi’s way.
You are right that China is heading for real trouble, but this is even more reason to avoid being at their mercy. As that trouble approaches Xi will feel the need to spring the trap in a rash way he would never try otherwise. If we can avoid the big trap we will win just as you say. But we have to get there. And that means preventing Xi from gaining the kind of leverage that he is aiming for.

And we are fighting them with economically damaging policies to our own consumer.
Odds are when they fall, we do too.

No, because you crowed about your pop culture knowledge, not about watching ONE movie.

No.
Here is my limited opinion on tariffs.
It doesn’t do just one thing.m
Redistribution of trade benefits to US producers.
Aplies a tax on foreign goods so US producers can raise prices as needed.
Tariffs can target and help very specific producers in US.
Protects US workers from unfair foreign labor practices.
I have always supported targeted Tariffs when and where needed. Just not as a long term policy. China is a different beast since allowed into the WTO and lied about everything they promised to do to get in. If anyone including SLO would read the agreement and what china said they would implement you would see not one thing did they come through on. They lied on everything once in.

So you don't understand the reference which from a quick google search is clearly from a movie, and then you get angry you don't know it's from a movie so now I worship pop culture?

Listen, you said what you did in college and you expected me, who has never watched this movie to catch the reference without telling me it was a reference.
I can promise you most people would not have caught that reference.

Not all tariffs are bad, and you are correct. Short, targeted tariffs at a crisis can help.
But clearly thats not what is happening today.

Bullshite, they ain't going anywhere unless the Phoenix Valley desert changes. When they see the efficiency of the wafer yield by their factory in the desert, they'll expand immediately. You see, the Phoenix dry humidity is so constant, chip manufacturers can tweak the clean room environment so that chip yield is untouchable in other locations. During Intels boom times, their single Phoenix site was responsible for more than 50% of their profits from entire world wide company efforts.
TSMC will be expanding in Phoenix soon.

I remember one summer I got tired of fighting the grass and weeds and didn’t pull out the lawn mower. The more it grew the less inclined I was to get my yard back by doing what was needed. It grew worse and hotter. Finally my wife’s little dog could make no headway and that was it. Pulled out the lawnmower and it was the worst. Took awhile and was completely unnecessary if I had not let it get out of hand.
That’s how I think of the current tariff war.
