Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed the ban on magazines holding over 10 rounds in June, and it takes effect December 11.

quote:

The ban was challenged in court after it was signed, but last week the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit upheld the ban. Breitbart News reported that a three-judge panel from the Third Circuit voted 2 to 1 to uphold the ban.

Judge Stephanos Bibas, a Trump appointee, was the panel judge who voted against the ban. He argued that the ruling treats the Second Amendment as protecting second-class rights, unequal with other rights. He wrote, “The Second Amendment is an equal part of the Bill of Rights. We must treat the right to keep and bear arms like other enumerated rights, as the Supreme Court insisted in Heller. We may not water it down and balance it away based on our own sense of wise policy.”

Looks like another appeals court WANTS to get taken to the woodshed.

It's hilarious that these people think this will stop crime. VT shooting happened with pistols and 10 rounds mags

It seems like this will effectively outlaw a bunch of fairly common handguns as well. Most full sized 9mm have a capacity of 10+

Subcompacts are generally 10 rounds too; only the compacts are less than 10

It won't outlaw the guns, just the mags

Ironically, all this does is give gun companies more money

But the left isn't trying to outlaw guns...

Many already sell California compliant models. If the NJ laws don't differ (and I don't think they do regarding magazine restrictions), the same Cali compliant models are ok in NJ.

Buy a gun safe and keep your high capacity mags in it. If nobody knows about them, you'll never be asked about them. If you ever need them to defend your life, the legal charges afterwards will be worth it.

Yep. Everyone will have to run out and buy mags that will turn their Glock 19 into a 10 shot.

If only the police officer assigned to that school had used one of those opportunities to enter the building and confront the a-hole.

I agree about the coward part but why didn't anyone tackle this fricking nutjob during any of his reloads?

It's not about stopping crime, it's about creating precedent to ban certain firearms.

My compact 45 holds 13
Full size 40 hold 16
Full size 9mm holds 19

Pistol mags aren't cheap either

Right, but I'm saying that now these gun owners have to go out and buy new compliant mags. Depending on what type of gun you have, they range between $15-$30 a piece. NJ has a population of 9 mill and 11% own guns so that's about 1 mil people who own guns. Let's say 1/3rd of those people own guns that are subject to this new law and let's say they all buy new mags at $15 a piece. That's about $15 million going to the gun industry just from this legislation.

The thugs in Camden and Newark will surely destroy theirs and buy new ones.

Would not participate. The magazines I have now have no problems or defects.

Thinking on it, I wouldn't buy a Cali compliant firearm either, so my opinion is moot.

cost gun makers about 2 cents to make a larger plug in magazines to reduce the capacity to meet this yet everyone must buy new mags to comply.

gun makers will make bank and no criminal will be afraid of having an illegal magazine while committing crimes

but passing these laws makes them feels good inside

Pretty sure they have to cut down the springs to make this work.

If you're entrepreneurial, start selling (completely legal) full size springs in NJ. Conversion is just a matter of pulling the block in the mag and swapping springs.

Glad I don't live in Jersey.....

If I did I would gladly become a felon. If they came and tried to take my magazines, there would be blood.
