He won't win the election if he doesn't. Winning Presidential elections is about bringing your phalanx of supporters - the 35% of the electorate who won the nomination for you - and then adding the voters whose candidates you beat in the primary. That gets you close. To get over the edge you have to win enough of the independent voters. MAGA is not going to get Trump there. In 2016 it did, because his negatives had not climbed off the charts, but it won't do it now.
He has to make deals - not just to increase his polling numbers, but to get the political electioneering machines that turn out the votes. George H. W. Bush called Reagan's economic plan "Voodoo Economics" and constantly made fun of him. But when the issue was decided they made nice and Bush was on the ticket.
