It's a Mk 19. I trained with them in the army. Unfortunately I've only fired dummy rounds :(

No. A machine gun is any belt-fed automatic gun. The old M-60 is an example as is a mini gun (like on a chopper). An automatic rifle is called, well, an automatic rifle.

I got to fire real rounds ... a lot of them ... at Fort Jackson.
Yeah ... it was fun.
Also got to shoot a lot of .50 cal auto and SAW that day.
About the only fun thing I've ever done at Fort Jackson/Camp McGrady.
That was a long time ago, of course.
