Superbowl broke record viewing numbers, Nba finals broke the record as well. Nba saw a 3% rise in unique viewers last year even with the cord cutting. The Christmas games last year were the most viewed games in ABC's history. The NBA is also in a new $24 billion dollar deal. In addition to the Knicks and Lakers, the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets and Golden State Warriors each generated more than $200 million in revenue in 2014-2015.
Keep in mind last year was an election year.
The idea that these leagues care about a "demographic" that will boycott is asinine. They know who watches and they know who to target. They truly don't care if you boycott. 18-35 is the target and trust me, they aren't snowflakes enough to boycott.

It had a lower rating than both 15 and 16 despite it being an overtime game.

Regular-season games were down single digits in percentages. Monday night football and Sunday night football were both down double digits in viewer percentage.

Where are you getting the idea that this ever occurred or was a possibility? B/c Sir Winston posted it?

And the NFL is declining in popularity, but that has far more to do with their shitty rules and league management than any kneelers.

ETA: "It was an election year!". Ok, Roger.

No, it was 2nd all time. And that's incredible considering one of the teams was the Falcons.

Thanks. Nielsen ratings.

I don't think a couple hundred thousand viewers is cause for alarm just yet. Don't know about the regular season though

Contracts are based on projected growth. If those are divergent with present performance, it will be an issue in the short term.

Your own link seems to dismiss any worries about the dips in viewership.

Double digit decreases are not a blip. The question is if it's a one year occurrence or a trend.

Surprised anyone still watches the NBA, it's almost as boring as MLB.

NFL is still cool, but CFB is 1000x more exciting.

NFL seems to be chalking it up as a blip because of the election, but 2015 numbers were down a little from 2014, though nowhere near double digit.

It was probably just a combination of the election, some political backlash, and just a shitty product. The Monday and Thursday night games were especially bad last season.

I think they'll see a slight rebound this season.

more people are watching the NBa now, they have like 1.7 billion fans on social media which is the most among any sports league in the world. Millenials are really taking to the NBA because of the current stars.

I divide sports between what I like to DO and what I like to WATCH.

I loved playing baseball...from age 9 till 50 (in the Shreveport Sr. League) but I can't watch it.
I loved playing tennis ...from age 14 till 30 but I can't watch it.
I currently love playing golf in my old age. But I can't watch it except for Sunday of a major.

I never played football in my life and I absolutely love College FB. I watch 6 games every Saturday.... 2 in each time slot. I'm counting the days.
